Cheerleading isn’t an easy sport, that’s for sure. However, there are some teams who take things to the next level with their abilities – leaving crowds utterly mesmerized.
The squad from Columbus High School ended up turning on the heat during the GHSA State Championships. Their routine is so spectacular in fact, it earned them the title of State Champs that year.
Besides winning over judges these cheerleaders have won over the internet as well. It’s a performance that’s gathered more than 13 million views. Get ready to be blown away like the rest of the world!
Cheerleaders are talented athletes who are an asset to any high school. Besides being supportive figures, there are teams that go beyond cheering at football games and pep-assemblies.
The Lady Blue Devils from Columbus, Georgia were a competitive cheerleading squad who earned a spot in their state’s championship. A competitive routine usually combines techniques from dance and tumbling, along with jumps and stunts.
Dressed in their school’s red and blue uniforms, the girls began their performance in a pose. Only moments later they were setting the floor ablaze with their skills.
With a variety of songs in the background, the Columbus High cheerleaders quickly jumped into their energetic routine. It’s full of fun, fast-paced, and high-flying moves that had the audience awestruck.
They even incorporate Manfred Mann’s old-school classic, “Doo Wah Diddy Diddy” into the beginning of the performance.
Cheerleading has come a long way since back in the day.
Interestingly enough, females weren’t included when college clubs began forming in the late 1800s, which were kept all-male.
According to Varsity, females weren’t allowed to cheer at the University of Minnesota until 1923. The most growth of women joining cheer took place in the ’40s, however, when numerous male students went off to WWII.
Over time it’s progressed into the sport that it is, with females proving they have what it takes to be amazing cheerleaders.
The Blue Devils showed everyone their incredible routine that must have taken a lot of time, practice, and dedication.
