Josh and Kelly are actually fans of The Phantom of the Opera

All this took place at Josh Groban’s live Stages event. Aired by PBS as a special, the songs were all from memorable plays.

Josh has always been a fan of Broadway. He turned his dream in to reality when he released his album Stages which featured a variety of musical hits.

“Theater and musical theater have always been in my heart. These are songs I’ve wanted to sing since I was in high school.”

It was one amazing evening.

Raoul is ready. All he needs is Christine. Josh’s choice would be Kelly Clarkson and he made sure his audience knew.

“When we were making this record and I was going to record this song, I knew that this duet had to be recorded in a very, very special way. And it had to be recorded with a very special singer.”

Kelly walks out in a beautiful black dress worthy of the opera.

She explains that she too was always a fan of Broadway and that Phantom was the first musical she saw.

Kelly always wanted to play Christine and she finally got her chance.

Raoul and Christine are characters from the classic hit. Both Josh and Kelly have always wanted to play those roles and here they are.

“All I ask of you” is a mesmerizing and romantic song and as both singers unleash their voices.

It’s obvious they were meant to sing it together. They were born for this and the stunned faces in the audience seem to agree.

Even the Phantom had to be impressed.

Josh begins and his opening line has the crowd enthralled. The man is a fantastic singer and his tenor seems to wrap the whole stage with an invisible cape all his own.

“No more talk of darkness. Forget these wide eyed fears.I’m here, nothing can harm you. My words will warm and calm you.”

His lyrics are crisp and clear, matching the candlelit stage and the theme of the night.

Making Andrew Lloyd Webber a very proud man.

Kelly takes over and her stunning vocals ascend through the rafters. Her black dress and golden hue of the stage match her velvety voice.

They take turns, singing each part with perfection.

Accompanied by the piano and an orchestra, both singers hold the audience in wonder and amazement at this stunning performance.

It gets better. Joining their voices, they take the duet to another level as the instruments build to a rising melody. Stunned silence all across the hall as the camera pans around capturing the magical moment.

Raoul sings to his Christine.

The duet comes to an end. Pouring their hearts out, they deliver their last lines with such emotion it leaves goosebumps on ones skin.

Whatever the cost of the tickets, this one number alone was well worth it. The audience loved it, the videos have so many views and these two deserve the standing ovation they received.

Surely everyone knew it was going to be fantastic, but the moment was absolutely spellbinding.
