Among the many joys of having a child is the ability to watch them develop their own interests and talents. Although our kids may take after us to a pretty major extent, there are some elements of their personalities that can’t be accounted for. If we give them a supportive and loving space to explore themselves, the results can often astound us.

For proof of this phenomenon, consider five-year-old Claire Ryann Crosby and her dad.

Crosby and her dad run a YouTube channel called Claire and the Crosbys.

For those who don’t know, the channel is a daddy/daughter channel dedicated to musical performances that the two do together. The channel started simply because Claire was a precocious young performer, particularly of Disney songs! Her performances of “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana and “Part of Your World” in The Little Mermaid both went massively viral. Claire’s talent even led to her and her family appearing on Ellen!

Now, the pair is back with a new and slightly unusual performance.

Although most of Claire’s songs are geared more towards cuteness and Disney songs, it’s important for an artist to stretch.

Instead of a happier song, Claire decided to perform “Tomorrow” from the musical Annie, and the results are impressive. Like many of her other videos, it begins with her and her dad addressing the camera. “This is a song that I sing when I’m a little bit sad,” she says. With that, Claire starts singing the familiar words in a delicate voice while her dad strums along behind her.

Together, they do a great tribute to a classic song.

Towards the end, Claire reaches for the dramatic ending and takes a bow when it’s all over!

Above all, Claire’s performances show us that it’s important to find our own voice—and that it’s easier to do when our loved ones support us. By allowing their daughter room to sing and perform, Claire’s parents have given her a gift that will likely serve her for the rest of her life! Without a doubt, Claire is hugely talented and already has a great grasp tone and delivery. We’re all expecting big things from Claire in the future—though when you’ve already made it on Ellen, where do you go from there?

For those who liked this video, be sure to check out Claire and the Crosbys for more performances!
