A lot of people spend their lives trying to get famous and never make it.

Evelyn Williams wasn’t going to let that happen to her. At 81 years old and a great-grandmother, she has done a lot of things. She has sung in front of large audiences many times, but her performance on “Ireland’s Got Talent” was her first time performing on live television.

She wasn’t a bit nervous, and she looked great in her dress and jewelry.

Her hair was curled and shining, and her makeup was on point. She was there to win, and she wasn’t going to let anyone stop her. Of course, it takes more than a pretty face to advance in the competition. When she grabbed the microphone and started to sing, everyone knew there was more to her than her adorable old-lady charm.

She sang “Send in the Clowns,” and the entire audience and judges panel were on the edge of their seats.

When she finished, she got a standing ovation. The judges loved her, and Michelle Visage even hit the Golden Buzzer for her. This causes a bag of gold confetti to fall on her and meant she got to go straight to the live semifinals.

The lyrics of the song are:

“Isn’t it rich?
Are we a pair?
Me here at last on the ground,
You in mid-air.
Where are the clowns?

“Isn’t it bliss?
Don’t you approve?
One who keeps tearing around,
One who can’t move…
Where are the clowns?
There ought to be clowns.

“Just when I’d stopped opening doors,
Finally knowing the one that I wanted was yours.
Making my entrance again with my usual flair
Sure of my lines…
No one is there.

“Don’t you love farce?
My fault, I fear.
I thought that you’d want what I want…
Sorry, my dear!
But where are the clowns
Send in the clowns
Don’t bother, they’re here.

“Isn’t it rich?
Isn’t it queer?
Losing my timing this late in my career.
But where are the clowns?
There ought to be clowns…
Well, maybe next year.”

At first, Evelyn was scared and wasn’t sure what was happening.

The judges walked on stage with her and talked about how the song was meant to be performed by someone who had lived a long life with plenty of ups and downs. Evelyn was clearly that person, and hearing her sing it was an experience they would never forget.

Evelyn has been a widow for seven years. She also has a daughter living in Saudi Arabia who she rarely gets to see. She has had a lot of sad moments in her life, but a lot of good ones, too. She has six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

One of her grandchildren even accompanied her to the audition and encouraged her to try out.

Evelyn has proven that you are never too old to go after your dreams. Now she is a star and has a lot of amazing moments and performances ahead of her. She will go on to perform at the semifinals and prove that she really does have talent.
