The greatest thing about the internet is that it allows us to find all kinds of incredible new talents.
For many people, going online is a way to find news and entertainment, as well as a way to blow off steam after a long day. Although there are plenty of people who have used YouTube to make a career, there’s a wide range of how people can do so.
On the one hand, there are vloggers who upload everything on there—and on the other, there are people who perform in real life and put their performances on YouTube.
And the video we’re talking about today is an example of the latter.
The video was loaded by Chris Turner, a British comedian who also happens to be a freestyle rapper.
Although Turner is British, he lives in Los Angeles, California and performs comedy shows all around the world as well.
While there are all kinds of different stand-up comedians around the world, Turner’s comedic style is quite unique. Instead of doing a standard talking show, Turner does a kind of improv where he takes suggestions from the crowd on many different topics.
While that part is funny (along with his crowd work), the real comedy starts once that’s all over.
As it turns out, Turner is actually a freestyle rapper who makes up his comedy bits entirely on the spot!
The performance we’re talking about today was posted on YouTube on October 9th, 2019. As it begins, Turner speaks to the crowd and asks them what they’d like to hear a performance about.
The first suggestion he gets is “toenails” followed quickly by “quantum mechanics.” Needless to say, there’s no possible way he could’ve prepared for the performance—those suggestions could not be further apart.
Regardless, he keeps going and asks for even more suggestions.
Before long, Turner has collected another two or three words that seemingly have nothing to do with one another.
Finally, he takes all of the words the crowd has said and lets everyone know that they’re going to see a rap performance… and that it’ll be better than they think it’s going to be.
With that, Turner recaps his suggestions which were toenails, quantum mechanics, Harry Potter, tequila, cryptocurrency, the Doppler Effect and the Hindenberg. Finally, a DJ off-camera finally starts the music.
After much ado, Turner is ready to perform.
From the very beginning, Turner jumps in without any hesitation by rapping elaborately about toenails.
Before long, he’s sailing from suggestion to suggestion and linking everything together without breaking a sweat.
Although the crowd seemed hesitant about it all at first, before long they’re laughing and gasping as he sails from topic to topic. When it’s finally over, he says one final punchline and the whole crowd roars with approval.
After that, they give him a huge round of applause.
Since the clip was posted online, it has been viewed three and a half million times and counting!
Though there are plenty of different comedians out there, this performance (and others like it) by Turner are blowing the world away.
