With the advent of mass technology, the way we make and consume music has changed quite a lot.
In the old days, you might have a few musicians in a town or place that only performed locally and made a modest living that way. Later on, you might spread out and go on the road with your music, trying to get the attention of other communities.
Maybe you would even try to get in front of some executives at a big music company to get some distribution. Though this old model still exists, it has changed quite a lot.
And one way it has changed is through reality television.
Rather than having people wait to be discovered, plenty of shows have put the process of being discovered on television!
Though this trend started with American Idol, it has grown and expanded into plenty of other avenues as well. And though it goes without saying, it has made new avenues for some very talented people around the world—people like Calum Scott.
For those who don’t know, Scott is a singer who made his debut on the world stage on an episode of Britain’s Got Talent. He originally went to audition with his sister, but she got cut.
Even so, he went on to deliver a performance that has been viewed more than 260 million times on YouTube!
Without a doubt, Scott is an incredible singer with a unique delivery and interpretation of all his lyrics.
In his audition, he performed his own take on “Dancing on my Own” by Robyn. The original was an upbeat dance track with just a tinge of sadness about it.
Although the message of the song was always there, Scott brought it out to the forefront with his mournful version of it… and he even turned it into a single for himself. But as it turns out, that’s not the only hit he would go on to have.
After all, nearly everyone must’ve heard “You Are the Reason” on the radio by now—though they may not know the whole backstory!
Although that song is great as well, Scott once again decided to take things up a notch by adding a new spin on it.
To do that, Scott decided to team up with British singer Leona Lewis, who is probably most famous for her hit single “Bleeding Love.”
Without a doubt, Lewis is one of the world’s best singers at the moment as well—and by getting on Scott’s song, she makes it that much better.
And to make the biggest splash possible, the two even recorded a duet video together to launch the song.
As the video starts, Scott’s gentle voice is the first thing that listeners hear.
It’s clear why he’s so popular from the very beginning. After all, he has incredible technical control as well as great emotion. A moment later, Lewis joins in and does her verse as well.
The whole time, the two singers look right at each other and it’s clear they have chemistry. Lewis does her part beautifully as well, but when they harmonize it’s on a completely new level! If anyone has been a fan of Lewis or Scott in the past, this is definitely worth checking out.
