Busking is a well-known way of putting on a show in the middle of the street.
Many street performers all over the world make people happy with their random and unexpected art. Now and then, there comes an unforgettable performance in the form of pure art. That’s the case in this video where four men deliver a completely new version of “Minnie the Moocher.”
The song was first recorded in 1931 but remains a jazz classic most famous for its scatting-style lyrics. This street performance at Union Square sheds a completely new light on the song and let the audience travel back in time.
The singer has a golden voice.
The video begins with four men adjusting their instruments.
The camera is on the floor and they are talking to the audience. When one of the band members positions the camera in front of them, their performance starts. They briefly say that they will perform an American classic, and we see their band name on the screen. As the song starts, it’s clear the singer has an amazing voice and makes interesting movements while singing. Befre long, they’re pulling in the entire audience.
His voice and their interpretation made the song interesting to a whole new generation.
The audience is listening to them carefully and it is obvious that they managed to capture a lot of attention. This man’s voice makes you question why isn’t he somewhere on a very big stage, with a better sound system slaying his music!
They all have undeniable charisma.
When they perform, they not only play a song—they bring you a complete story and have a unique approach! You can almost imagine Minnie the character because of the singer’s engaging voice and the way he gives himself completely to the music. Their stage presence is simple but charming
The obvious thing is that they enjoy performing.
This young group makes you think that they would perform with the same quality for one person or one thousand people. When talent like this meets the motivation to make people happy, videos like this one come as a result.
Then there’s also the kazoo playing, which gives something a little extra to their whole performance
The singer takes a kazoo in the middle of the song and adds its sound to complete performance. It makes the whole thing sound interesting, different and amusing. Many people commented about that instrument and called it “a duck-sounding instrument.” They also use the cajón drum rather than a full drum kit.
Seems like these boys found a way of putting it all together and making a party out of classic jazz song!
Cab Calloway’s performances were also very lively, and it feels like they wanted to pay some respect to the original. They did a perfect job.
Whenever the camera switches to the audience, you can see so many fascinated people around them. They get a big round of applause in the end and someone from the audience can be heard commenting “brilliant” about their performance.
These young men are originally from Denmark.
The group is called Brothers Moving and is considered to be one of the most influential street bands in the past few years.
These Danish brothers formed this band in New York City in 2008. They also perform in various clubs and at private parties. Since it was posted, this video got more than four million views and we’re guessing their popularity will only continue to grow!
