Imagine the nerves and the anxiety if this happened to you.
Brendan Murray dreamed of becoming a singer, and that’s after his boyband HomeTown didn’t really make it big.
He took a job as a plumber but that’s no good for an aspiring musician so he decided to audition.
With the pre-audition chat handed by Robbie Williams, the two discover they share the same background with Williams joking about his own story.
Murray begins to sing, but Simon Cowell stops him not even halfway into the song.
Now the audience booed but Cowell is a visionary, and a big name in the industry for good reason, as this viewer put it.
“Simon is a genius. He’s just so focused in the process rather than the outcome. He’s a real visionary”
Simon could care less what the crowd thinks.
He knows Murray can do so much more with that unbelievable voice.
So the judges decided that Murray should sing a different song, one he didn’t know and had to learn for a few hours.
Brendan was born in Tuam, County Galway in 1996, which makes him a teenager in this video.
Already, you can tell he has potential and that’s why Simon stopped him.
Murray was singing âWe Donât Have to Take Our Clothes Offâ but it just wasn’t working for him.
Simon told him, âI think lyrically that song didnât suit your voice, so Iâm struggling at the moment as to who this guyâs market is.â
Robbie Williams added, âYouâve got an impossibly perfect pop voice. I think you just made the wrong song choice today.â
Simon offered Brendan a second chance, suggesting that he come back a little later and try singing âThis Womanâs Workâ by Kate Bush.
The young singer gratefully took the chance for another opportunity so he left and stayed backstage trying to learn the song in the few short hours he was given.
The jitters must have been maddening.
Murray came back on stage but his second audition almost flopped too.
He announced, âOver the past few hours, Iâve just been trying to learn this song, so I hope you like it.â
The music began, but he started in an almost impossibly high falsetto, his nerves getting the better of him.
He begins again, this time knowing it was his last chance to impress the judges, and Murray nails the song perfectly, stunning the audience and the judges who were now all smiles.
Murray was even allowed to read his lyrics but once he got into it, he just sang his heart out!
“I love it when he drops the lyrics sheet. That’s when you know that he knew he had it. Simon knew he had potential so that’s why he gave him a second chance … and then again once he started. Well done Simon & Well done Brendan.” says a happy viewer.
Brendan had all four judges on their feet applauding.
That’s how you take a second chance!
