This is by far my favorite cover of the song - their animal sounds make it so much fun!

Whoever grew up in the 90s knows exactly what comes next when they hear “Weeheeheehee dee heeheeheehee weeoh aweem away.”

You see, the song “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” was written and recorded as “Mbube” (“Lion” in Zulu) in South Africa by Solomon Linda in 1939.

It then “became a number-one hit in the United States” after it was adapted in English by The Tokens.

It has been super popular to children since 1994, when it was on the soundtrack of the Lion King movie.

All the children loved the song then, and it still reminds them of their best years even today.

A few years ago, a boys choir in Lithuania performed this song, and their audience was excited after hearing how amazing their rendition was.

The more than 30 boys, from small schoolchildren to older teenagers, were directed by Remigijus Adomaitis, an energetic Lithuanian choir director, who founded a boys’ choir studio in the early 1990s.

In 2017, the Dagilėlis boys and youth choir, directed by himself, performed the popular song in a very special way.

You see, before the actual singing started, each boy did his best to sound like the nature background.

Some boys sounded like trees and flowers do when it’s windy or when animals walk around them.

Others pretended to be animals in the jungle: monkeys, exotic birds, and really any wild animal.

Adomaitis used his hands to remind them how loud or quiet their sounds should be when they should do each kind of sound, and so on.

Only moments later, the boys started singing.

“Weem away aweem away” they started singing, while moving their hands left and right.

They sounded so talented that no part of the song had any issues.

At the same time, looking at them closely thanks to the zoom of the camera, it was obvious that they enjoyed what they were doing at that moment.

Although they were obviously following the director’s guidelines, and they were focusing on their tasks (miming an animal sound/singing), they looked very happy when they were doing it.

When the song ended, the audience couldn’t stop applauding and cheering on the talented boys.

The video of the performance was uploaded on YouTube, and it has been viewed almost 6 million times since then.

Most of the users that watch it like it very much, which is obvious since more than 130k people have liked the video.

“I was a member of this choir… I was the one of the smallest there and I still remember, I was just enjoying it as though we are just playing with my friends,” wrote someone in the comments, which makes the whole thing even more amazing.

Of course, most of the commenters said how good the boys’ performance was.

“This is hands down the best version of this song I’ve heard,” someone wrote.
