Were you interested in music when you were younger?
Though everybody has different talents and interests, everybody knows that children seem to be just a little bit freer than a lot of adults are. Because we don’t have as many responsibilities when we’re young, it’s easier to express ourselves more freely and play around with what we like.
As a result, many children identify creative outlets that they’re passionate about very early—and some of them even start pursuing their dreams at that age as well!
That was definitely the case for this performer on Britain’s Got Talent.
The audition we’re talking about took place on the show’s 2013 season.
Like any other audition, the performer walked out onstage and introduced herself to the judges—but she was so young! As she walks out, she introduces herself as Asanda Jezile and says she’s only 11 years old.
Before long, the judges are asking her who her influences are and who she idolizes. Without missing a beat, she says that she looks up to Beyoncé!
But what most people wouldn’t expect is that Jezile already has all the attitude of a pop star completely internalized.
As the tells the show’s producers herself, she’s a little bit of a diva!
She goes on to say that she loves artists like Beyoncé and Rihanna, and looks up to their attitude as an example of strength and inspiration. Before long, the judges clear the way for her to perform.
After that, they start the music and Jezile starts singing “Diamonds” by Rihanna. From the first notes, it’s clear that she has her own delivery and spirit behind the performance… but a moment later, she starts striking poses so confidently!
Though everyone was charmed by Jezile at first, nobody expected her to be so confident!
As the song continues, her voice gets stronger and stronger and the crowd roars!
It’s clear that the whole audience is on her side as she steps and stomps her way through the song. Still, one of the most stunning moments comes at the very end as Jezile’s voice soars higher and higher to hit a bunch of high notes! When it’s finally over, the whole crowd gets on their feet to give her a standing ovation.
Needless to say, nobody could believe what they saw!
After the huge round of applause is over, it’s time for the judges to give their feedback.
Right off the bat, all the judges have nothing but good things to say about Jezile’s performance. Everyone says that it was almost funny just how composed and present she was, and that when her voice was locked into the notes she was singing that it was incredible to witness!
At the end, judge Simon Cowell sums everything up nicely. He says that of all the young contestants the show has seen, nobody has had as much stage presence as she had—and that she also has the best smile he’s ever seen! After everyone gives their feedback, the judges vote—and Jezile gets four yeses! Though it goes without saying, it’s pretty tough to watch her performance without smiling.
