It’s insane how much social media has evolved. It started as a simple tool to connect people and morphed into a fantastic place to share all the world’s thoughts and cultures.

What has especially caught the eye of some users is dance challenges.

A history of dance challenges

When Drake’s ‘In My Feelings’ single was released, the internet went crazy. The song itself is excellent; it’s nothing to complain about. However, what’s even more amazing is the trend it created.

One person shared a video of them listening to the song in their car and dancing to it. It starts with them driving along when the song suddenly plays. Moved by how much they like the tune, they jump out of their moving car and begin to dance.

A challenge to accept

The ‘In My Feelings challenge’ was born. Everyone was doing it. It was dangerous, and some people did get hurt while trying to jump out of their cars, but that didn’t stop millions of people from trying it.

The most notable of these attempts was on by the actor Will Smith. He took it a notch higher by taking the challenge on top of a bridge in Budapest. It was dangerous, but it’s the kind of thing that gets views.

The next great challenge

More recently, the ‘Git Up challenge’ has taken over the internet. It was inspired by the hit single ‘Git Up’ by Blanco Brown. It sounds like any other funky country song but has an air of hip hop to it.

In the official music video, you see Blanco bust moves from both country two-step to and modern hip-hop. Sure it’s country music, but it feels like an entirely new genre of music. Of course, the internet would have something to say about that. Everyone from children to grandparents have been giving it a shot and sharing their moves on the internet.

Everyone’s in this one

One surprising outcome of this challenge was a viral video of an Amish man taking on the Git Up challenge.

Clad in a straw hat, leather boots, blue jeans, a shirt, and some swanky suspenders, you see the man pour his heart out in what looks like his dining room. The huge smile he wears throughout the video tells that he is having a good time.

Dancing with or without technology

How does an Amish man get access to a camera and the internet? Isn’t it against their beliefs? It is. If you pick up on the multiple clues in the video, it turns out the man seen dancing in the video actually isn’t Amish.

The channel, Dave SHOWTIME Meyer, actually posts multiple videos of a fictional character, Jabob, an Amish man, doing things that Amish people wouldn’t do in real life.

In one of the skits, Jacob steals his neighbors’ car to go try out a new combo released at Wendy’s. Amish people are allowed to be passengers in cars, but they aren’t allowed to drive.

They also aren’t likely to have access to the internet or know about the challenge.

While the video itself isn’t an actual Amish man dancing, it’s still worth watching.
