I’m sure by now most, if not all of us would recognise the song “Can’t Help Falling in Love”. In fact I’d wager that most people would struggle to read that song title without hearing the voice of The King of Rock himself, Elvis Presley’s voice reading them in their head. First recorded in 1961 by Presley, it was actually written by Hugo Peretti, Luigi Creatore, and George David Weiss. Now, The King has an intrinsic link to the song, although many have covered it including Bob Dylan, A-Teens, Twenty One Pilots and notably, UB40.
And y’know, talented young artists are still covering the song to this day.
One such artist is up and coming artist Alyssa Baker.
She’s a bright young talent currently emerging from Vancouver, Canada, and she’s absolutely brimming with talent. She has a sweet unique sound which will take her far as a musician.
She’s grown through the years herself, and is at the precipice of greatness.
Although she’s young, she has grown beyond her years and already at this age is forging for herself a sturdy career in music. As her Facebook says:
“Alyssa’s unique take on songwriting and penchant for melody is the backbone of her music. Releasing her first EP at age 16 in 2014, Alyssa has evolved from a quirky indie-pop sound to a matured, alt-pop artist.”
She’s get a full hand of cards, and seems to be making waves not just locally, but online too.
She has a few stellar music videos out, which showcase not only her fantastic singing voice, but also her innate star-power. It’s a matter of time before this new talent bursts forth into the world.
I mean heck, she even has an album on iTunes!
Do you have an album on iTunes, because I don’t! But if you want proof of her talent, stripped back and without any bells and whistles, just watch her singing “Can’t Help Falling in Love”.
It’s just Alyssa and a piano in a recording booth. Pure, unbridled talent.
She starts off slow, delicately playing the piano with a feather’s touch. After her soft piano introduction, she begins to sing. Her voice is sweet and angelic, and she sings with such potent expression. As someone in the comments section notes:
“The best part about this is that both her piano and her voice are in no hurry. ..(she’s more interested in performing with meaning than showing off her skills.)”- Some One
I couldn’t agree more. Another commenter says that she sounds as if she must really be in love with someone to sing like this. that’s just how expressively Alyssa sings this love song.
She has fantastic technical ability on the piano too.
As she strolls beautifully through the song at her own melodic pace, she brings up all the feels. With just Alyssa and her piano, she shows what true musicianship is. No gimmicks, no tricks, just one girl’s incredible voice. I know Elvis would be proud.
