Jason Lyle Black, also known as the “Backwards Piano Man”, is one talented fellow. Appearing on Ellen, one of his major claims to internet fame is his remarkable talent while tickling the ivories…you guessed it-backwards! Not only can he play while completely facing away from the keyboard, but even lying flat on his piano seat with his head under the keys.
He’s a stupendous talent, but his talent doesn’t come from nowhere…
It would appear that it originates in his grandparents.
A short video which Jason put together has the internet weeping, but don’t worry, they’re tears of joy over how adorable this old couple are. They perform a piano duet of the notable song from Disney Pixar’s “UP”. You know the song, which alone is responsible for making swathes of cinema-goers bawl their eyes out at the warm hearted story of an elderly couple’s relationship.
And Jason’s Grandparents are coming for our hearts!
It starts off with a pair of leather shoes following a walker down a hallway, the four prong ends topped with tennis balls just like the movie.
Grandad pops a cheeky look around the corner at his wife in the kitchen…he’s got something up his sleeve.
He sits at the piano, rests his hands on the keys and begins to play.
The memorable tone of the UP song is heartwarming from the first note, and we see old black and white images of the couple through the years. This is an irresponsible level of cuteness, and many commenters express that they nearly begin crying at this early stages of the video. Well buckle up folks, the adorability scale is about to be shattered!
Grandma hears the music being played, and decides to go check it out.
When she enters the living room where the piano music is coming from, she slips on her glasses to see a sign left for her.
A sign reading “60 Years” commemorates the occasion. 60 years of marriage for the couple who in real life have actually been married for that long.
And when she notices her fella playing the keys, a big smile washes over her face.
This charming man tickles those ivories with impressive capability for an 80 year old, and seems to be living his best life doing so.
So of course, as it seems this wonderful couple has always done, they team up.
Grandma joins him, turning his serenade into a duet. She takes the lower scales, providing the steady rhythm over which Grandad trills the delicate melody with admirable dexterity.
Then, just like a boogie woogie duo (maybe a little slower), Grandad gets up and they swap places.
He stands up, and steps over to the side that Grandma was on, and she slides over. After he sits, hey make eye contact and Grandad times them in with a gracious smiling nod. And they’re off again! When they do, he cannot top himself from smiling… that is the genuine smile that melts everyone’s hearts.
But what really brings the tears to everyone’s eyes, is the sweet ending.
As they wrap up their duet, Grandma rests her head on his shoulder, both of them smiling so sweetly.
I’m not crying, you’re crying!
