Is there anything more entertaining than a kids’ dance competition? Not only is it truly adorable to watch little ones strutting their stuff on stage, but the amount of talent we see in children so young will always blow our minds.
Many of these competitions are posted online for us all to see, and if dance is your thing, then they’re a great source of entertainment while most of the world remains in lockdown.
One particular dance group caught our eye, after a video was shared of them taking part in the KAR Dance Competition.
KAR (Kids Artistic Revue) are known as America’s Favorite Dance Competition, and welcome dancers from all over the world to take part.
One of the contenders in their May 2019 competition was a group of girl dancers ranging from ages between 6-8.
The California-based group was formed by the AVANTI Dance Company, and despite their young age, these girls have some impressive skills.
Their video was shared onto YouTube by AVANTI Dance Company in September 2019, and has since being viewed by over 6,000 people all over the world.
As the girls sassily march onto the stage to the song Disturbia by Rihanna, we already know that this is going to be a dance that we won’t forget.
The group’s styling seems to have been inspired by 90s gym wear, and each girl wears a sparkly blue and black leotards with pink leg warmers, with their hair tied into an adorable side pony.
As the first song fades out, the girls get in formation before crouching down and waiting for the next son. This time, it’s Maniac by Michael Sembello, and as soon as the first few punchy beats start playing, the group immediately launches into their impressive routine.
It’s the kind of music that makes you want to tap your toes along to the rhythm, and we’re soon captivated by the girls’ incredible performance.
Staying true to their outfits, the girls perform some moves similar to those you’d see in a 90s workout video, including some high kicks, hip-shaking and even the splits. It’s all very sassy and Girl Power, and we love the attitude that these girls bring to their dance.
As the music continues, each girl is given her own solo routine for a couple of beats, making sure that everybody has a chance to shine.
We’re incredibly impressed with how flexible and acrobatic these performers are, and their routine is a perfect example of a seamless combination between dance and gymnastics.
When the dance comes to an end, all of the girls stay professionally in their end poses, though you can see that some of them can’t help but smile proudly as the audience go wild. Then, with one last sassy hair flick, the group leave the stage, and it’s down to judging.
After some deliberation, the AVANTI girls were awarded a well-deserved second place in the category: Top Secondary Small Group 6- 8- something they should all be incredibly proud of.
