If you were in this hardware store when this stranger sat down at the broken piano, you would have thought you were time-traveled to the ’50s. A white t-shirt. Red baseball cap. There’s not much that stands out about this customer, but when he opens up his mouth to sing he stops everyone in the store. The way this young customer can play and sing sounds like it’s straight out of Carl Perkins, Elvis Presley, or Jerry Lee Lewis’s songbook.
Speaking of Jerry Lee Lewis, the song that this talented stranger chooses to sing is one of his. “Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On” is one of Jerry Lee Lewis’s most famous hits and well known by everyone because of its fast tempo and fun lyrics. If you close your eyes, you wouldn’t even be able to tell that it’s not Jerry singing.
Not only is his voice nearly identical to Jerry’s, but his mannerisms mimic the rock and roll singer as well. The way he plays the piano in such an animated way is so entertaining, and though it’s clearly not the best piano, he makes the most of it and plays flawlessly.
Lucky for us someone browsing the store decided to pull out their phone and capture the magic on camera. After uploading it to YouTube the video has gained over 6 million views and is adored by everyone that stumbles upon it.
“What, is he like 20 years old and can play like that?! Amazing!” said one YouTuber. Another points out that you have got to give it your all when covering Jerry Lee Lewis “and this guy doesn’t disappoint!” Nearly all the comments are just pure amazement at the random customer’s talent. Except for the few piano players out there critiquing his posture and technique.
The piano player actually turns out to be somewhat known around the town and on YouTube. Jacob Tolliver has several videos of himself playing in the hardware store 50’s rock and roll hits, all racking up thousands and thousands of views. He also cover others songs, plays other pianos, and sings for his channel- all equally amazing as his Jerry Lee Lewis Cover.
This just goes to show that talent is everywhere, and in the most unlikely of places. This piano player made all the customers that came in that day smile, and anyone watching did the same thing.
