It’s an American sitcom starring Bea Arthur as Dorothy Zbornak, Betty White as Rose Nylund, Rue McClanahan as Blanche Devereaux, and Estelle Getty as Sophia Petrillo.
The TV comedy show was created by Susan Harris and it aired on NBC from 1985 to 1992.
The sitcom produced 180 episodes in its seven seasons.
It was all about the main characters’ funny adventures, sharing stories, and supporting each other through thick and thin.
Their strong bond showed that friendship knows no age and that laughter, love, and companionship make life’s journey brighter, no matter what stage of life you’re in.
Award-winning!
The show bagged numerous awards including two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Comedy Series and three Golden Globe Awards for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy.
Each lead star received an Emmy, a feat accomplished by only a few sitcoms in history.
One notable thing about “The Golden Girls” was it consistently ranked in the top ten Nielsen ratings for six of its seven seasons.
Even today, it continues to captivate new audiences, recognized by TV Guide as one of the top 60 series of all time in 2013 and honored by the Writers Guild of America in 2014 as one of the “101 Best Written TV Series of All Time.”
According to Terry Tang of the Associated Press, the show is a timeless example of a sitcom that has aged gracefully, drawing in fans well into the 21st century.
The Golden Girls on ice.
Just very recently, the ‘Sky Rink All Stars’ Junior Team dressed as “The Golden Girls” dropped everyone’s jaw with their comic ice skating performance.
The young skaters are Avery Asher, Angelina Eckhard, Ryder Goldstein, and Sophie Skinner.
Their amazing routine was choreographed by Marni Halasa.
Turns out, before their The Golden Girls performance on the ice, they previously won bronze at the National Showcase competition in Boston.
Their ice skating routine will give you “chills”.
With the help of Halasa, who’s also their coach and music splicer extraordinaire, managed to pull off such an amazing routine.
They also used some of the iconic songs and even the actual lines from the hit sitcom during their performance.
Apart from being winners in their craft, The Sky Rink All Stars Junior Team made the performance even more entertaining.
They incorporated their fun-filled routine by using props like inflatable walkers and toy canes.
Overall, their The Golden Girls gimmick was nothing short of amazing!
Guess the original Golden Girls would be so proud to see that even the youth of today’s generation still remembers them.
