Something about seeing talent at a young age can just fill you with awe. Well, either that or it could fill you with envious questions like:
“WHY CAN’T I DO THAT!?”
Ahem…If you tend to experience the former, then seeing young people (especially very young people) perform amazing feats or show incredible skill can just leave you speechless. If you tend to experience the latter, then I still recommend the video I’m about to talk about, but… I don’t know, maybe get something to bite down on because this young dancer has talent pouring out of her pony tail.
Her name is Audrina Mossembekker, and she is a five-year-old star on the horizon.
She’s performing to a song which requires skill and maturity.
Regarded as a classic ballad, and one heck of a tear-jerker, “Angel” by Sarah McLachlan is one to listen to when you are ready to face some serious emotion. Originally written about the overdose of former Smashing Pumpkins keyboardist, Jonathan Melvoin, it has become an often referenced and covered song. Anybody attempting to dance to it, has to do the sombre tone and artful lyrics justice.
And Audrina, despite her age, does just that.
She dances not only with admirable skill, but with such expression and dramatic style. For a 5 year old to handle a song with this level of emotion is truly impressive.
But the amazing part doesn’t even start there.
Because it’s not just demure sadness she can convey, but she can blow your socks off with her acrobatics. She masterfully does remarkable stretches, and side-flips as if it were nothing. I can’t do that! Well, I could try, but then I’ll just end up crying, and not because of how touching Sarah McLachlan’s lyrics are.
And her ballerina-like poise goes even further.
Even though this is a contemporary dance in terms of style, she brings an almost ballet level of elegance to her routine. and not just elegance, but flexibility as she pauses every so often to create stunning tableaus, forming striking poses. No matter whether this young talent focuses her talent on contemporary or classic dance styles, she will surely skyrocket.
I mean…What even is that?
I can’t even do the splits normally, never mind doing them while balancing on my own face! Save some talent for the rest of us will ya?
But still, she stays with the tone of the song.
Ever remaining composed and in total control, she is a true marvel on stage. Usually when you go see children perform dance routines you have to watch kid after kid trip over their own feet, and cry when they forget the choreography. It’s clear however, Audrina is a serious dancer in her own right.
As she wraps up her performance, she forms her final position.
This also doubles as a humble bow at the conclusion of her routine. This performance was part of the NUVO Long Beach 2020 convention, and it is safe to say that she left her entire audience aghast.
Watch the full video below . . . she’s quite the talent!
