Meet Umairah, who at ten years old, could out-sing most talent show contestants.
Only a decade old at the time of recording this video, this young powerhouse of talent brings a formidable level of vocal skill to cover one of Beyonce’s most loved performances. Under the guidance of her singing school, the Singapore Show Choir Academy, she has begun to truly blossom as a singer in her own right. Can this pint-sized performer bring the heat?
The song in question is a truly memorable one.
“Listen”, from the hit musical Dreamgirls, which follows a young group of girls trying to make it big as singers. Maybe there’s some deeper relevance for Umairah in there…? Either way, she has some massive boots to fill, so can she make both Beyoncé and her singing academy proud?
Well, I think it’s clear that she can!
Only a few seconds in, you can already recognise that Umairah’s talent is not to be underestimated. Firstly, you can note that she sings with a confidence which belies her age. At this early stage of the song, where it starts off soft and low, we can really appreciate how melodious her voice is.
Despite her age, he voice is incredibly powerful.
Not only does Umairah have incredible control over her voice, but she has a real power too. If you close your eyes, you may just believe that this is a seasoned professional, not someone so early on in their singing career.
And as the song grows, Umairah rises to it.

She performed it for her academy’s “B-Dazzled Under 21 Solo Competition”, where she walked away having won second place! It’s clear that her school knows that she’s a promising young talent, and it’s so great that she gets the opportunity to flaunt her stuff.
So when she turns her full attention to this studio recorded version…Wow!
