If you’re a fan of Swing dance, you know that it has numerous styles. Although some of them look the same, each one of them still has differences.
It’s also evident that each one of them is amusing whether you’re the dancer or you’re the one who’s watching it. That’s why even the young ones love to do it on stage.
These two college students took on the challenge to perform one of the examples of Swing dance.
They are Ivy Claire Huiet and Jonathan Kemp. These pair aren’t just great dance partners, they are also good-looking. The clip of their whole performance during the 2020 National Shag Dance Championships has been viewed over 29,000 times.
Some commenters even commended these two for what they showed.
One commenter just briefly wrote “Bravo” and his comment says it all. At a young age, what Ivy and Jonathan did was spectacular. The video of their piece deserves to go viral all over the internet.
If there are thousands of people who watched their video, that just proves that what they showed is spectacular.
Their spins are flawless. Jonathan guides his partner before he spins her beautifully. The perfect movements of their feet are definitely noticeable, too.
Jonathan is doing a great job!
He even has a breathtaking solo part where he really shines. He is indeed an amazing dancer.
Ivy is equally great.
She contributes to the dance performance with her smooth moves and grace. Her charming smile has the power to captivate the viewers too. She and Jonathan complement each other so well with their grooves.
Their performance may look simple but the way they did it says a lot. They make it look easy even though it’s not an easy dance. It takes hard work and frequent practice.
What’s more amazing about these two is they are enjoying their performance. It’s apparent on the smiles on their faces. They’re just so entertaining to watch.
They are the champions!
Apart from being applauded by the audience after their performance, they also won the Junior II Division Championship at National SHAG Dance Championships 2020, with this particular performance of them.
What is Shag dance, though?
It’s a style that originated in the African American community in the 1930s. It’s formally called the Carolina Shag and it’s the official state dance of South Carolina. Since then, it has become widely popular and it’s being danced during special gatherings.
Moreover, it became known as “beach music” during the 1950s and 1960s. It’s great that even up to this day, young people still enjoy doing it on the dance floor despite having new dance crazes nowadays.
Hopefully, just like Jonathan and Ivy, other teens would also try to dance this.
This dance isn’t new but it’s totally fun and it will always be classic. If you also love to dance, don’t hesitate to try Shag dance. Who knows? You might shine on the dancefloor like Jonathan and Ivy!
Witness how graceful these two dancers are on the dancefloor!
