Although there are plenty of “mainstream” ways to get discovered these days, the internet has also leveled the playing field.
While it makes sense to try to get in front of the broadest possible audience you can if you’re a performer, it doesn’t always make sense to go the television route. Sometimes, we want to do too many things and we can’t be pinned down to just one talent.
On the other hand, sometimes what we do is so specific that we need to be in control of just how it’s presented. Other times, we just want to throw our talents out there and see what happens.
At least, that’s what the woman in today’s story did.
The performer we’re talking about is YouTube singer and performer Yanina Chiesa.
Chiesa’s channel has been around for four years, and so far has nearly a million followers. Though she has plenty of videos, one of them has grown more popular than the rest.
As anyone who watches her channel will know, Chiesa has an incredible voice—but it’s also unusually flexible. As such, she decided to showcase her voice by drawing on all kinds of different singing styles.
The video she uploaded has her singing in the same voice as 15 different popstars—and it’s pretty incredible.
As the clip begins, Chiesa starts performing “Trouble” by Amy Winehouse.
Though Winehouse’s voice is very smoky and soulful, Chiesa has no trouble capturing her intonations and emphases. She does a verse and a chorus before continuing on.
Before long, she switches into “Dangerous Woman” by Ariana Grande. This time, her voice becomes a little silkier and lighter to suit Grande’s style—and once again, she totally nails it.
Still, Chiesa is only get started.
The third song is “Waka Waka” by Shakira, a song that sounds completely different from the other two.
Although she has her own awesome voice, there’s something unique and hard to imitate about Shakira’s delivery. Rather than clearly enunciating all of her syllables and words, she swallows some of the syllables and has something of an unusual voice.
Even so, Chiesa has no problem imitating it and sailing through it, doing a pretty incredible impression of Shakira in the process! Next up are Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, both of which are perfect as well.
Still, by that point she’s not even halfway done with her performance!
When all is said and done, Chiesa also takes on Ellie Golding, Sia, Celine Dion, Avril Lavigne, Christina Perri and Taylor Swift.
Since she posted the video, it has earned some 39 million views on YouTube—and it’s not hard to see why. Though she’s developing her own audience on YouTube, Chiesa hopes to leverage her talents and eventually perform on America’s Got Talent.
Though it’s not the easiest thing in the world to get on that show, auditions like this one are definitely a great way to start! In any event, Chiesa has definitely done a great job of building an audience thus far—and she can only go up from here.
