Dr. K isn’t the only one who has taken a-back by the old lady’s extraordinary piano work.

A crowd of people has gathered to watch her bring down the house, with many who get video recordings of the awesome performance.

She plays red-hot ragtime and stride piano the entire performance.

He’s also posted other elderly people ripping it up on the piano, along with a not so nice elderly lady who yelled at him for supposedly ‘bashing’ the piano.

Most of Dr. K’s YouTube videos have one thing in common, the brilliant boogie-woogie or ragtime piano style.

Both boogie-woogie and ragtime were created in the African-American community during the late 1800s, but boogie woogie became hugely popularized in the 1920s.

Don’t know what boogie-woogie is? Britannica explains it perfectly:

“Boogie-woogie, heavily percussive style of blues piano in which the right-hand plays riffs (syncopated, repeating phrases) against a driving pattern of repeating eighth notes (ostinato bass). It began to appear at the beginning of the 20th century and was associated with the southwestern states—hence its early names, “fast Western-style” and “Western rolling blues.” Its bass figures are believed to derive from the running sequence of guitar accompaniment.”

Did the lady in Dr. K’s video nail this performance perfectly or what? People on the internet sure think she did, with music lovers all over the world wowed by her flawless performance.

Kudos to Dr. K for finding this piano gem! Check him out on his YouTube channel to see more amazing impromptu piano performances. I also want to point out that the caption on this video says “pre lockdown vid,” which is good to know.
