Music can be made using just about anything.

Some processes of music-making are more complex than others, and when they are, it leaves people stunned. This musician built a gigantic marble machine and uses thousands of marbles to create some incredibly beautiful sounds. It’s unlike anything you’ll ever see, which is probably why it had hundreds of millions of views.

This is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen!

Wintergatan creates one-of-a-kind sounds with a custom-built marble machine and goes massively viral.

Wintergatan is a folktronica band from Gothenburg, Sweden known for its unique music, engineering innovation and a ridiculously awesome music box that uses 2,000 marbles to create musical masterpieces.

Back in 2014, Martin Molin started posting videos of himself constructing the complicated marble machine.

He uses touch microphones for the drum sounds, with rice to create a snare drum sound. The machine is built around several instruments that the marbles trigger when the gears are cranked.

There’s a base guitar, xylophone and drums, all timed by many different gears spinning and belts that carry the marbles.

The actual construction of this magical music box took over a year to complete.

Once it was done, music lovers couldn’t believe what they were seeing. The timing that goes into the machine is mind-boggling, and every piece must work perfectly for it to be successful.

Long clear tubes guide the marbles to exactly where they need to be, with little metal fences that keep them from falling off track.

The woodwork that went into this project is hard to fathom, Molin made every piece custom and by hand.

All he has to do is crank the biggest wheel—that triggers everything else to play the smooth music.

The Marble Machine looks like something out of Willy Wonka, but instead of candy coming out, it’s gorgeous harmonies. Since finishing the first marble machine in 2016, Molin has stepped it up a notch and built the Marble Machine X.

As if the first Marble Machine wasn’t breathtaking enough, Molin constructed a more advanced version of the brilliant music box.

The newer version has various other sounds added, along with more metal pieces that help it run smoother than the original.

Both marble machines are complex works of art, and we can’t wait to see the next version.

The music from the Marble Machine and Marble Machine X is wonderful, but it’s the ingenuity that makes the contraptions so jaw-dropping.

Only a certain type of mechanical mind could pull something like this off. Most people wouldn’t even know where to start!

It’s no surprise that this video went viral, but the number of people who’ve watched it is unbelievable.

People from all around the world are in awe of the fabulous creation, and Wintergatan is set to take the Marble Machine X on the road for shows.
