When you think of family bands or family acts, who comes to mind first?
Like most of us, you may be thinking of The Brady Bunch or of The Waltons, though these are both television shows. Beyond that, there’s The Jackson Five and The Osmonds as well.
Still, being a family band typically doesn’t happen very often, as all of the pop cultural phenomena we just mentioned are relatively old now. Still, it’s rare that you can get an entire family together to perform and have them all be talented.
Fortunately, that’s exactly what happened on this episode of America’s Got Talent.
The group in question calls themselves The Willis Clan.
The band is made up of 12 siblings, spanning the ages of 21 to just three years old!
As Nick Cannon talks to them backstage, he asks them how they all manage to get through the showers in the morning—to which they say they go as quickly as possible! As the judges interview them, they all introduce themselves down the line and say their ages.
Although they all look nearly identical, the one different is they get smaller (and more adorable) as the mic gets passed down!
When the last little girl introduces herself as Gina who is only three years old, the whole crowd lets out an “aww!”
The Willis Clan tells the judges that although they’re saving up for a bus so they can tour the country, they’re currently all living in a 15-passenger van that has very little room for the instruments!
After everything is over, the judges give them a few more compliments before clearing the way for the group to perform!
With all that out of the way, the crowd applauds and The Willis Clan takes their places.
As they start performing, the music takes on a country-western flavor.
Still, the lyrics that come out are not what the crowd expects—they’re the lyrics to “My Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music! Although the original song is something of a wistful ballad, here the band has turned it into an up-tempo country jam!
From the very beginning, the crowd is clapping along with them. Although the older siblings take up most of the singing and the instruments, the little kids contribute as well.
While they perform, the littlest kids dance along to the music!
It’s clear that the family is talented simply from the range of their instruments!
Among the group are a guitar, a stand-up bass, drums, a keyboard and an accordion. By the end of their song, the whole crowd is clapping along and cheering and the whole band takes a bow. Though there are plenty of talented groups and singers that come on the show, few acts are as entertaining as this group was!
At the very end of it all, they even bring out their mom and dad!
All of the judges can’t stop commenting on how gorgeous the family is and how unique their performance was!
When everything is said and done, The Willis Clan gets all the yeses they need to continue! Beyond simply being entertaining and special, however, The Willis Clan shows just how powerful the bonds of family can be. While most of us don’t have a family quite as big as they do, we all know that spending too much time with them can still drive us crazy at times. To see this many siblings not only getting along but playing beautiful music together is definitely inspiring.
