Street performers are a pretty ubiquitous part of life for anybody who lives in the city.
If you have to commute to work on a bus or subway, or if you spend much time walking around the more crowded and touristy areas, you’re bound to see buskers performing for money almost every day!
After a while, many of us get pretty numb to the experience—after all, you’re on your way somewhere, you’re in a hurry and you don’t want to get sucked into a conversation. Still, sometimes the performers are so good that we have to stop and listen.
At least, that’s what happened in this story.
The performer we’re talking about in this clip is street busker Levi Mitchell.
For those who don’t know, Mitchell is a singer and guitarist who has been releasing music on YouTube for seven years. Like any other performer, Mitchell tries to raise his profile and make a name for himself by having an impressive voice, releasing a lot of content and trying to grow his profile on social media.
Still, one of the best ways for any emerging artist to grow is to connect directly with fans through in person performances.
Still, Mitchell definitely didn’t expect his street performance to lead to this!
The clip we’re discussing took place in Los Angeles, California on Hollywood Boulevard, a notorious spot for street performers.
As the video begins, Mitchell is already in the middle of playing a song… which turns out to be “I Gotta Feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas.
For anyone who doesn’t know, the Black Eyed Peas are a hip-hop and pop group that had all kinds of huge hits over the years including “Let’s Get it Started” and “Where is the Love?” From the very beginning, Mitchell does a great job covering the song while adding his own voice to it.
But things get interesting as a white Tesla pulls up behind Mitchell and Black Eyed Peas member will.i.am gets out!
Though will.i.am was clearly on his way somewhere, he hears Mitchell singing one of his songs and he stops in his tracks.
Everybody is surprised to see that the real singer is there on the street, and Mitchell increases the intensity of his performance as will.i.am smiles along. Before long, Mitchell has his guitar on a loop with a foot pedal and starts singing more directly to the audience.
He even starts beat-boxing on top of it all as well… and just a moment or two later, will.i.am is bobbing along to the music. It only takes about two more seconds before will.i.am walks up to the microphone and starts performing along with him.
By now, a huge crowd has gathered around the two performers!
Though they perform their first song together, before long they’re transitioning into another Black Eyed Peas hit!
After that, they transition into “Where is the Love?” and will.i.am starts rapping along! At the end of it all, Mitchell keeps playing while will.i.am addresses the crowd and everyone cheers along.
When it’s finally over, will.i.am thanks Mitchell for letting them play together on the corner for an impromptu performance an d the crowd finally disperses. At the very end, someone else yells to the crowd: “Everybody give [Mitchell] a big donation!”
