It is one thing when people do song covers, but mashing several songs into one is something totally different.
In essence, it makes a totally new thing out of old elements. Mashups are not just about gluing random songs together and hope they would sound good. There are plenty of things to consider when you attempt to create one yourself. For example, harmonies, similarities of chord progressions between two songs, and timing are all important to consider.

However, the most vital part of every good mashup is that it tells you a story.
So, even if two songs completely contrast each other, make sure that you can pull a brand new story out of it when you put them together. Fortunately, that’s exactly what Pomplamoose did with the performance we’re talking about today. For those who don’t know, Pomplamoose is a group of musical entrepreneurs headed by Jack Conte, who is also the CEO and co-founder of the membership platform Patreon, along with his wife, Nataly Dawn.

They have been doing music since 2008 and have worked their way up to success over a couple of years.
From song covers to writing their originals, Pomplamoose is also known for their head-bopping mashups.

The group uploaded a mashup on August 4, 2018 which earned them 4.8 million views.
The mashup consisted of Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean,” The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face,” and lastly, “Can’t Stop” by Justin Timberlake. Together, they named it as “Can’t Stop Feeling Billie Jean’s Face.”
The mashup has everything that you didn’t know you needed.

From smooth transitions to the well-crafted story to the dance-inducing funky beat, what more could you possibly need? This mashup song already has it all!

To start things off, they used the bass line from “Billie Jean” for its intro.
Dawn then follows with the verse and pre-chorus from “Can’t Feel My Face” until they slowly built their way up to its chorus. After that, the energy peaks even more when it gets to the chorus.

While Dawn was stuck with lyrics from The Weeknd’s song, the backup vocalists inserted the “Can’t Stop the Feeling” part in-between.

She continued with “Can’t Stop” on the second verse of the song using Billie “Jean” as the base instrumental while she’s backed up by beautiful harmonies.
They continued to the next chorus, took a short break, and went back in with a booming finale. This is why Pomplamoose is one of the best indie music groups there is. Still, even with Dawn’s bewitching voice, she wasn’t the only one who stole the show during the performance.

You could also see the backup vocalists swaying to the beat the entire time.
Conte’s energy is limitless while smashing his fingers on the keys. The drummer and the guitar player’s focus during the entire performance are awesome as well, and let’s not forget about the bass player who got totally lost in his world while running his fingers over all those funky riffs.
Just imagine how much work they put to make this video a success.

In all, Poomplamoosemade a great arrangement, mastered it through plenty of practice, filmed it, and uploaded it for the world to enjoy.
Though this performance is great on its own, anyone who likes this should watch the rest of the band’s videos on their channel as well. In all the videos, this group’s enthusiasm and passion for music are top-notch.
