Tons of incredible acts pass through the America’s Got Talent stage. That’s just a fact. They wouldn’t have made it that far if there wasn’t something truly special about their talents, their spirits, and their personalities.
This family band called We Three is no exception to this rule.
Joshua, Bethany, and Manny wanted to follow in their father’s footsteps with the family band. They’re all incredibly talented musicians who learned pretty much everything they know about music from their loving parents. Their mom taught them to breathe, and their dad taught them how to play their instruments.
Here is their dad proudly watching on:
You can tell that these three had such a lovely childhood learning from their parents and sharing in their passions. There’s just something about them.
However, two years before this performance, the unimaginable happened. Their mother lost her battle with cancer.
This isn’t an easy thing for any human to go through, no matter how close they are with the person who passes. It’s all so unfair and unexpected.
There are many ways to grieve after something like this happens. Everyone will go through a dark time, but when it’s time to go forward with life, that’s when it’s time to process it all in a healthy way.
For We Three, the way to process this tragedy in their lives was to write a song about it.
They chose to write the lyrics from the perspective of their mother when she was living her last days. It’s so sad, but it’s also so comforting and reassuring.
When they sing this song for the judges, there’s not a dry eye in the house. Even Simon struggles to keep tears from streaming down his face.
Some of the heart-wrenching words go as follows:
“No honey I don’t want to go, just know that I have too.
Look how the cancer has grown, I think it’s time I go home
But heaven’s not too far away I know someday you’ll visit
And I didn’t think it’ll go this way, can I please have one more minute?
As death rattles my cage I can hear their voices fading, each breath getting harder, I can hear the tears coming from my daughter”
Mel B looks especially torn up over this beautiful song.
Sometimes on these kinds of shows, you might suspect that some of the acts, while very talented, used a sob story to get through to the judge’s elimination rounds. However, this is absolutely not the case for this group. Yes, their story is incredibly sad, but their musicianship and the talent in their blood really shines through, as well. There’s no mistaking the fact that these siblings have the voices and the songwriting chops to make it far as professional musicians.
These three teach music by day and play venues themselves by night. They pour their heart and soul into the music they make, with this song being one of the most personal arrangements that they have.
Surely, many of us can relate to this song. That’s just how life goes sometimes. Luckily, there are groups like We Three that show us that we are not alone in our grief and that there is hope for accepting our circumstances and coming together with loved ones to cry on each other’s shoulders.
