World War II was a horrific time in human history.
Countless soldiers lost their lives battling for freedom, some suffering the side effects to this very day.
According to the National WWII Museum, as of 2017, only half a million of the 16 million Americans who served in WWII are still alive today.
With most vets being roughly 90 years old, it’s estimated that in another 20 years, there won’t be any living WWII veterans left.
Now, one wartime choir is dedicated to keeping their memory alive.
The D-Day Darlings are a Britsh choir with a mission to “keep the wartime spirit alive and into the new generation.”
Originally created as a trio by founder Katie Ashby in 2008, the group is well known in the military world, having even made special appearances at historical sites such as the Imperial War Museum.
To help the younger generations remember war veterans, The D-Day Darlings perform classic WWII melodies that “kept Britain smiling through its darkest times.”

When the women originally took to the Britain’s Got Talent stage, they wowed the judges with a nostalgic rendition of “We’ll Meet Again” by Vera Lynn. Later, they blew through the semi-finals after performing “Rule Britannia” surrounded by British flags.
For their final performance, the group planned an epic surprise by recruiting a few special guests.
On that night, the D-Day Darlings took the stage in their uniforms, hair pinned tightly into victory rolls. Lining up in a V-formation with their arms locked behind their backs, they proceeded to mesmerize the audience with a classic wartime song.
“The White Cliffs of Dover” is one of the most popular WWII hits. The song was originally penned as a poem by Alice Duer Mueller. Later, it was developed into a motion picture, with the feature song popularized by Vera Lynn.
The lyrics of the song depict the wartime era, with lines wishing for peace on Britain’s symbolic border. Its chorus reads:
“There’ll be bluebirds over the white cliffs of Dover; tomorrow, just you wait and see. There’ll be love and laughter and peace ever after; tomorrow after the world is free.”
During the performance, the women wow the judges with their amazing solos and harmonies.
The audience waves red, white, and blue glowsticks, adding to the patriotic effect. At one point, just when you think it can’t possibly get better, the women unleash their special surprise.
When the audience sees the guests walk onstage, they immediately burst into cheers.
The moment is definitely one to remember!
Since being uploaded to YouTube, the women’s final performance has been viewed more than 470,000 times.
Although The D-Day Darlings didn’t win the competition, they’ve recently signed a deal with Sony Music UK, and their debut album is set to be released on November 9.
