Of all the many different reality shows that are out there, our favorite has got to be The Voice.

Though purists may be fans of American Idol above all else (for its pure singing competition and for the nostalgia value), it’s hard to compete with a program that’s as consistently diverse and surprising as The Voice is.

For those who haven’t seen the show, the basic format is simple. Each episode, a contestant comes out onstage to do a “blind audition” before a panel of judges.

This means that nobody can see who’s singing at first.

If the judges like what they hear, they can hit their buzzers to turn around and reveal the contestant.

It’s set up this way because both the contestants and the judges compete to win on The Voice! Beyond that basic format, the show has also become an international franchise with all kinds of different spin-offs and special versions.

Though the show started in Holland, each country and region of the world now has its own special version—and there are even versions specifically for different age groups.

The performance we’re talking about today comes from an episode of The Voice Kids in Russia.

Like any other show, it begins with a contestant walking out onstage.

The singer’s name is Maria Zakharova, and she’s only nine years old. The song she decides to sing is “Demons” by Imagine Dragons, a kind of arena-rock song that has an anthemic feel and that spent a long time on the charts.’

As she walks out on stage, some backing music starts playing and the judges wait for her to start singing.

Before long, her voice is sounding out and she’s swaying to the music.

Although it starts off slow, her confidence and power builds almost immediately!

What’s most incredible about her performance is that she’s not afraid to lean into the rock vocals—and at one point, she even growls some of the lyrics, which raises one of the judge’s eyebrows.

Even so, after that she slides effortlessly into a pure, high note and everyone in the room is stunned! Even though she’s just a child, her rock voice is already good enough to carry a huge song like this one!

Before long, all the judges’ hands are hovering over their buttons.

After hitting another incredible high note, she gets her first buzzer!

Although there’s only one “yes” so far, the other two judges are dancing along in their chairs as well. Although the other judges don’t turn around, it’s pretty shocking that she didn’t get everyone’s vote!

Since the clip was loaded online, it has earned nearly six million views—and it’s easy to see why.

Needless to say, this is one talented little girl!

Although she’s still so young, Zakharova has a voice with a maturity and confidence well beyond her age.

The best thing about shows like this is they give younger contestants and anyone with a dream a platform to pursue their talents.

Though it goes without saying, there are so many talented people in the world—and the younger they get started on following their dreams, the better!
