How much do you know about opera?
For most of us, the answer is not very much. Still, opera is a particularly old and elegant form of music that serves as a key part of the Western tradition of music.
Because it is a somewhat more refined genre of music, not everyone has actually been to an opera—and even fewer people are particularly good at singing it. But even if we fall in either of those categories, it’s easy to be impressed by a good opera singer.
And this performer on The Voice Kids is a great example.
The audition took place in 2015 on the German version of the show.
Like The Voice in other countries, it begins with all of the judges’ backs turned to the stage for a “blind audition.” Next, a young girl walks out named Solomia to perform a song for them.
First, there’s a four-count before the music begins. The song that’s playing is “Time To Say Goodbye,” an Italian opera song that was first recorded in 1995 by famous opera singer Andrea Bocelli. From the very beginning, Solomia scales an incredible scale with ease!
Before long, she gets her first buzzer!
Although Bocelli is a professional singer, Solomia is able to keep up with seemingly no effort!
Before long, the judges are standing up out of their chairs… and some of them even have tears in their eyes from the overwhelming emotion of the song.
As she continues, the drums join in and the song switches to English. As the camera pans to the audience, even some of the kids in the crowd can’t believe what they’re hearing! The song only gets better and better as it goes along.
Eventually, all three of the judges have hit their buzzers and turned around.
At the very end of the song, things only get more difficult to sing—but Solomia keeps up perfectly!
As the melody soars skyward, so does her incredible voice. Right before it’s over, she hits one last high sustaining note… and the whole crowd gets on their feet to give her a standing ovation!
Although there have been all kinds of young performers on The Voice over the years as well as all kinds of opera singers, this performance is definitely one of the best anyone has ever seen.
When she’s finally done, Solomia can’t believe that she got all the judges to turn—and that they’re crying!
Needless to say, performances like this one show us that there’s no age limit to great talent.
Even though Solomia is so young, her performance is just as good as someone who has been singing opera for their whole life. It also shows us that just because we’re unfamiliar with a certain genre of music doesn’t mean that it can’t be beautiful or breathtaking.
After all, her incredible voice and delicate tone had the audience in tears! Though she still has her whole life ahead of her, we’re guessing we’re going to see some great musical accomplishments from Solomia in the future.
Congratulations to Solomia on a truly show-stopping audition! Be sure to watch the full thing in the clip below:
