Choral festival canceled, students do virtual acapella concert during quarantine
Even though coronavirus is keeping people at home, these students found a beautiful way around it!

COVID-19 has changed life as we know it for the time being, but people are finding creative ways to rally together and keep the spirits high. After their annual Choral festival was canceled, these students put together a beautiful virtual choir with their individual acapella parts.

This is so uplifting, they all have gorgeous voices’!

The Chino Valley Unified School District was forced to cancel their choral festival, so the students rallied together to do their parts virtually

The annual choral festival in San Bernardino County, California, was canceled, but that didn’t stop these teenagers from singing their parts in ‘Over The Rainbow.’ Technology helped them make a masterful video of their parts, and it came out phenomenal.

March 13th is a day students in Chino Valley will never forget, that was when the school board made the decision to close all 35 schools in the district leading mass cancellations of scheduled events. One of the first events canceled was the annual choral festival devasting the students who had worked so hard.

19 student singers from Chino High School, put their hearts’ and souls’ into this, with the help of a school official and an editor

Director of communications for Chino Valley Unified School District, Imee Perius, got a brilliant idea after she saw a group of Italians went viral for singing from their balconies to keep their spirits high.

The 19 students had been preparing for months, so they decided to each sing their individual part. They had to sing their parts alone this time, on top of that, they had to record themselves doing so.

An editor from the school district, worked vigorously to seamlessly string together the parts of all 19 students

It wasn’t easy by any means, the 19 students who stepped up to record their parts sent them to an editor for the school district who got to work putting it all together.

The editor had to take each part individually, edit them, and string them all together. He devoted his own time to help these students sing in unison again, an inspiring gesture in a time where inspiration is needed.

After 36 hours of hard editing, the video of the virtual student choir was complete and it quickly went viral

‘Over The Rainbow’ by Judy Garland for the movie, ‘The Wizard of Oz, is already a ridiculously harmonious song and these students nailed it! In the video, you can see all 19 students on the screen as they flawlessly go through their parts.

“It was really devastating for all of us knowing that we might not get the opportunity to sing together anymore. Our choir is more of a family.” Senior, Camille Cortes told CNN. She went on to say that her part took her 2 hours to get it right!

Although the students were skeptical of how it would come out, they were impressed by the virtual choir’s final product

The video has been viewed millions of times on various social media platforms, Almost 600k times on Twitter alone. Thousands of people have also liked and commented on the uplifting video, and it’s easy to see why.

This is the kind of content we need during this time of social distancing, kudos to these teenagers for going out of their way, and their comfort zones to bring us the touching virtual performance. To see them sing their parts together, watch the video below!
