American country music singer, songwriter and musician Vince Gill paid an emotional tribute to his wife, singer Amy Grant, who is currently recovering from a bicycle accident.
In a duet with their daughter, Corrina Grant Gill, the stage turned emotional as father and daughter thought of mom.
The two performed Gill’s 2019 single “When My Amy Prays”.
Their tribute took place on a Thursday at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.
They changed the lyrics to “when my mama prays”.
Corrina, 21, sang along with her father during the third night of Gill’s four-night residency which celebrated the venue’s 130th anniversary.
An emotional Corrina had the audience clapping supportively.
It was a song that showcased Gill’s pride in his wife’s strong Christian faith, leaving everyone teary eyed and emotional.
Amy Grant was riding her bike along with a friend near a golf course where she hit a pothole.
She was wearing a bicycling helmet at the time of the accident.
It was a good thing she was.
Her injuries meant that the singer had to postpone several shows scheduled for August.
And it hasn’t been easy for Grant.
Amy and Vince got married in the year 2000.
And by the looks of it, they are still very much in love.
“We’re going to do this song I wrote for my wife Amy,” Gill said on stage before their performance.
“We haven’t been doing it much, but because of her accident and everything she’s been going through we’ve been thinking a lot about her,” he continued. “I thought how sweet it would be for her youngest to sing this song I wrote for her.”
Corinna has a wonderful voice, considering she’s all emotional thinking of her mother.
Amy is a Christian and is not at all shy about her faith.
“Amy and I grew up very different. She never missed church and I never went. And just because we got married, I wasn’t compelled to say ‘Hey, I’m going to go to church every weekend.’ So there’s the truth, there’s your honesty in the song,” Gill shared in a 2019 interview.
“We all try to change each other sometimes. When we find our paths with someone, we want them to be more like I am and you want me to be more like you are.
And it’s just not going to happen. The best way to love somebody is at their worst. If you can find a way to love somebody at their worst, you’re going to win.” he continued.
And by the looks of this tribute, Amy’s influence has rubbed off well.
Grant’s advice to everyone is to take care of yourself. Simple, yet really solid words to live by.
Vince and Corinna are truly blessed to have her.
