American soldiers exist to protect national security and serve the American people.
Even so, active-duty soldiers have to take time off as well. That’s what these soldiers achieved with an impressive performance of “Amazing Grace,” a hymn that’s been an icon in American culture for years.
What a way to perform this immensely popular hymn!
“Amazing Grace” is a Christian hymn originally recorded in 1779. The words were written by an English poet named John Newton and were originally derived from his personal experience. After the revival of the hymn in American culture, it has been associated with funerals and memorial services.
It also appeared in several films, including “Alice’s Restaurant,” “Coal Miner’s Daughter” and “Silkwood.”
The song has transformative power and has been performed on different occasions, and in recent years, everyone interprets the meaning behind the words differently. For example, Barack Obama recited the hymn at the memorial service for Clementa Pinckney. Pinckney was one of the nine victims of the Charleston church shooting in 2015. Obama later sang the hymn during his eulogy for Reverend Pinckney.
Even so, this version could fit perfectly in any military movie.
The video first shows one soldier, but you can hear other voices in the room.
The soldier has the name Brailey written on his uniform. We found out that the lead singer of this team is Christian Brailey from Fayetteville, North Carolina. As he begins to sing, we slowly sink into a beautiful, soothing melody which reminds us why this hymn got so popular in the first place. Then the soldier shows us around, and we can see other military members singing along.
There is something beautiful in their performance.
It feels like a tribute to all soldiers worldwide, and to all the people who are never coming back home. If it was upon us to choose a perfect theme song for any military movie, it would be this version of “Amazing Grace.” These soldiers put their soul and all their experiences into one song.
We can imagine a scene where such a talented young man stops the war with his soulful voice.
Young soldier Brailey is so talented that we can picture him aborting the battle with such a voice.
As this performance shows, there is complexity in all people in the world—and even in very dangerous professions, there are moments of levity. Though it goes without saying, Brailey and his colleagues won the hearts of millions after their rendition went viral.
Since the clip was posted, it got more than a million views on YouTube!
As their video shows perfectly, a team effort is everything—whether it’s in military service, music or life.
The soldiers in the video are clearly on their break.
Some of them are eating and others are doing whatever it takes to amuse themselves. Even so, they still manage to display their love of country in their downtime. Although we think of the military as always involved in active duty or combat, moments like this show that life in the military has plenty of ups and downs. Just as music soothes us in civilian life, it’s also great when you have some downtime overseas as well!
