We can’t think of the 2014 hit song “Uptown Funk” without thinking about the impressive dance moves that go with it.

The song topped the charts of 19 countries, making it both Mark Ronson’s and Bruno Mars’ most successful single to date. That’s also the reason why many entertainers dance to it!

“Uptown Funk” appeared in several flash mobs, dance competitions and other types of performances.

The competition in this video is another such an event, and one 60-year-old teacher proves just how big of a fan of it she is.

Shirley Clements, a dance and physical education teacher at North Surrey Secondary School, celebrated the 25th anniversary of her teaching career during the competition.

The Outbreak is an annual dance competition, and this video was filmed and uploaded in 2016. It was also the year of Shirley’s retirement, and this was her final dance project.

Mrs. Clements was preparing 40 students for the competition when she decided to participate with them.

It was her way of saying goodbye in style. In case you’re thinking you’re about to see a simple routine and everyone is going to love it just because the lady is 60, you’re wrong. Her moves are so impressive!

The woman dances just as well as her students.

Her moves are precise, fast, sharp and unbelievable. Surrey’s student dance competition was created by Clements herself. We can’t imagine the emotions she must have felt knowing she was about to retire, turning the stage to future generations.

As soon as the video begins, you can see high school girls in black uniforms gathered around their teacher.

Shirley is wearing a red jacket with sequins and track pants. The audience starts to scream right away, and every move Shirley makes is followed by very loud applause. We could all learn from her example—years mean nothing when the spirit is young!

Halfway through the song, the girls leave the stage and their male colleagues appear.

The teacher now dances with them, and just as you think you’ve seen it all, Shirley spins on her head. We must admit that many younger people wouldn’t dare, but she slays it completely!

We couldn’t believe our eyes—she even threw in a high-kick!

When the song was over, all the students ran to give their teacher a group hug. It’s an emotional moment, full of love and affection all around.

As it turns out, Ellen DeGeneres was equally impressed!

The performance created another perfect opportunity for the energetic teacher and 12 of her top students to appear and dance on Ellen.

Shirley said that her television appearance was surreal, and commented that she had “60-year-old butterflies.”
