Think of “line dancing”, and you probably think of a barn full of sure-stepping folk all donned up in cowboy hats and checked shirts, stompin’ their boots in regular time with whatever rootin’, tootin’ song happens to be filling the hay-scented air.

Well it may surprise you to learn, that in fact, line-dancing has come a long way, and there are many modern iterations of the popular dance style.

And here to show off what they do best, is “Keema’s Kickin’ Crew”, or as they’re also known: K2C.

The crew is of course led my none other than Keema herself, who along with her mother “Nanna J”, choreographed a spectacular line dance to an absolute pop culture classic. Along with 13 other talented line dancers, they are a sure-stepping group of gals, but they don’t stop at just dancing to country songs. Rather, they get just a little bit funky with it! Uptown Funky that is!

As of March 2020, the music video for Uptown Funk was officially the sixth most viewed video on Youtube.

…With a still-rising total view count of 3.8 billion views. The song by Mark Ronson, featuring the man, the myth, the legend, Bruno Mars has been a cultural steam-train, losing no steam since its release over six years ago! Which means that any dance set to it has to be good!

And makes it the perfect song for a funky bunch like Keema’s Kicking Crew!

These girls get right to it, after Keema introduces the group. The dance itself is called ‘Uptown Funk Baby”…Wonder why they called it that…

Then the girls get into the routine, and boy can they move it!

Given that this is still a line-dance, it’s an all-or-nothing affair. That means that everybody in the crew is dancing along at the same time, doing the same moves. In turn, this amounts to the fact that all dancers have to be perfectly in-sync in order to make the dance work overall.

I don’t want to spoil it for you, but these gals are in-time, and ready to shine!

Some of the moves they do are an interesting blend of country-style line dancing and some more funky moves.

Given that this routine is a contemporary style of line-dance, it means that these ladies aren’t simply restricted to the dosey-doe or the electric slide! In fact, with a bit more hip movement and a lot lot more style, this crew will make you want to get up onto your feet and dance along.

And the beautiful thing is, you probably could!

Feeling bored in self-isolation? Well, Keema and her mom’s choreography is fun enough to keep you busy and having fun, while also being simple enough that you could quite easily pick the whole routine up in your own living room. My favorite move has to be the air guitar as they make this slow turn back to the camera.

All these ladies of the crew seem to be having the times of their lives.

And going by the comments, this seems to be something all viewers are picking up on.

“I really enjoyed watching this dance ladies (you can’t go wrong with Uptown Funk)! What I really love was seeing women of all ages and different sizes just having lots of fun doing something they really enjoy.🤗. Ladies, you made it look so easy that I even thought that I (and my two left feet) might be able to do this.”-Marie Butler-Goble
