Who are they?

The Vegetable Orchestra is a one-of-a-kind performance troupe that makes their instruments out of fresh vegetables. They use everything from leeks, to pumpkins, to tomatoes to create a unique sound that comes together to create incredible musical compositions. This blend is one of the must unique musical and aesthetic experiences that you can have today.

But this orchestra doesn’t just make music, they also introduce their audiences to fresh made foods. Any extra vegetables are made into soups that are then fed to their audiences after the show. This cool concept positively revolutionizes the dinner and a show concept.

You might be wondering if veggies can really make amazing music and this video seeks to answer that very question.

The band gathers

The video opens as we see members of the Orchestra come together. With the quarantine orders in place, the band is recording from their private home kitchens. Each member is busy cutting, slicing and rubbing vegetables together in a manner that resembles a instrumentalist tuning their instruments of choice.

Then the music begins, with percussion from the thumping of pumpkins and squashes and the squeaks of leeks rubbed together. Hollowed out carrots become flutes, while sliced and hollowed tomatoes become horns. The sound may not be your typical Grand symphony orchestra, but it’s undeniably creative, rhythmic, and cool.

Amazing editing

As you watch the video, you’ll notice how many creative cuts are used to highlight certain instruments or performers. You can expect several shots of individual players appear on screen only to slowly be replaced with new performers as their solos come and go. When a particular instrument stands out, they’ll appear on screen so you can see what instrument is at work and how they make those incredible sounds.

The best part is how similar some of the vegetables sound to real world instruments. Rubbing onion skins together carries a maraca like sound, and you can’t get away from the deep heavy thump of the squash. As the song continues, you can’t help but sit up and pay attention.

Rainforest sounds

later in the video, the musicians create sounds that resemble the cries of jumgle birds. It provides the feel of lushness that you wouldn’t expect unless you actually stood among the most untouched parts of Earth and stared out across a distance from atop a tall tree or high cliff. When you think about how the song is called “Green Days” it almost feels appropriate.

The whine and cricket sounds from these veggies keeps pace with the thumping and rattling from the other instruments. It builds up to a final crescendo that ends with a refreshing slowdown, just as the credits come in.
