Love ballads and slow rock music are what you can mostly hear being played on an acoustic guitar nowadays.
However, the acoustic guitar is a versatile instrument. You can perform a wide variety of musical genres ranging from classical music to hard rock. What you can do with other musical instruments, you can also do with your acoustic guitar.
If you are trying to see how much this instrument can do, then take a moment of your time to witness Australian guitarist, Tommy Emmanuel, as he performs “Guitar Boogie” on an acoustic guitar.
Get ready to move your hips as you watch this video.
Taken from Arthur Smith’s original composition “Guitar Boogie,” Emmanuel took his shot to give his rendition of the song. After three-finger snaps, he begins his performance by strumming a chord that gradually builds up its volume.
While picking and striking the notes of the song, Emmanuel adds in snappy and abrupt sound that builds up energy.
You can also see him partly strumming in some segments of the song. Watch him as his insanely fast fingers move on the fretboard and his other hand matches it with perfect precision. His fingers are tireless as they race against each other on the guitar!
His display of the hybrid fingerstyle technique is just top-notch.
Emmanuel was using a guitar pick for a song that majorly relies on fingerpicking. Even so, he plays the piece with so much accuracy that you can’t even tell the difference. To top it all off, his facial expressions make his performance a hundred times groovier as well.
His face says it all.
Just look at him enjoying every bit of his performance! With his feet tapping along with the rhythm and his headbanging, you can see how much he loves the music. It is amazing enough that he never runs out of stamina while shredding sick riffs on the guitar. The enthusiasm and passion that Emmanuel shows in this performance make you want to join in.
Emmanuel uploaded this performance on his YouTube channel four years ago.
Since it was posted, the video has earned nearly five million views on the platform.
The musician was already famous for his hybrid fingerstyle technique and energetic guitar performances. “Guitar Boogie” was the ideal song for his playing style and is one of the reasons why this song has become one of his signature performances.
For those who don’t know, “Boogie Guitar” was a popular piece for guitarists to play in the 90s.
Arthur “Boogie” Smith was the one who originally recorded the song in 1945.
A former jazz musician himself, he applied his experience from the genre to create his music. He based his composition on some piano pieces incorporating boogie-woogie rhythms. You can also notice some elements of jazz in this performance of “Guitar Boogie,” particularly in its syncopated rhythm and upbeat tempo.
The instrumental piece was one of the first to reach the top ranks on the country music charts.
Some notable musicians like Chuck Berry and Tom Petty have given their interpretations of the song as well. Even today, the song remains popular in the world of music.
