For the past six decades, Sir Tom Jones has been taking the world by storm. Known for his charisma, talent, and good looks, the 78-year-old Welsh singer has been a staple in the music industry since the mid-1960s.
Singing anything from pop and R&B to show tunes and country, Tom turns everything he touches to gold. In fact, a 2008 New York Times article called Tom a ‘shapeshifter’ able to ‘slide from soulful rasp to pop croon, with a voice as husky as it was pretty.’
Although Tom’s career has undergone many shifts and changes, one thing has remained constant— his ability to make women swoon.
Although Tom was married to his wife Linda for over 50 years, the singer admits he had a wandering eye, at one point, sleeping with up to 250 women while away on tour.
The affairs leaked their way into the media, with notable connections including Mary Wilson from The Supremes…
And Miss World Marjorie Wallace, whom he was photographed kissing on the beach.
Despite these indiscretions, Tom later called Linda the love of his life, dropping the Asian leg of his 2016 world tour to be by her side when she was dying of cancer. Still, at 78-years-old, Tom has a way with the ladies. Last year, he demonstrated the fact on The Voice UK by treating the audience to a sultry rendition of “You Can Leave Your Hat On”.
Originally composed by Randy Newman and appearing on the 1972 album Sail Away, the song “You Can Leave Your Hat On” is a sexy blues song that’s been used in the strip scenes of many popular movies. Tom’s version, in particular, was used in The Full Monty, a story about an unemployed group of people who decided to striptease for money.
In the video, Tom shows the audience he’s still got it with a rousing rendition of the sultry song.
The effortless performance is a reminder of why he’s been a mainstay in Britain’s music scene for the past 60 years, prompting viewers to rush online and Tweet out their praises:
“Just watched Sir Tom Jones on The Voice, proof of what REAL talent is. A true star never fades.”
“Still shook by Tom Jones. I mean he is a legend! What a singer!!! The performance was effortless!”
“Not gunna lie… Tom Jones singing on @thevoiceuk makes me go all funny!!!”
