In 1964, The Righteous Brothers recorded the song, “You’ve lost that loving feeling“. It reached number one in 1965, both in the US and the UK. The song is very much true to it’s time. Simple, heartfelt, and easy to listen to and sing.

It went on to become a classic. Many other singers had a go. The likes of Elvis, Nancy Sinatra, The Human League, and even Hall and Oates came out with their own versions. It is that good.

Artists of yesteryear and of the modern era are still at it too.

Here’s the legendary Tom Jones with Jesse J at the Grammy Awards singing the classic hit live in front of a star studded audience. Matching black outfits look great on that stage. Tom takes it away,

“You never close your eyes anymore when I kiss your lips
And there’s no tenderness like before in your fingertips
You’re trying hard not to show it
But baby, baby I know it”

Very Tom Jones with his voice resonating in a deep baritone that’s rich with tone and emotion. He is 75 years old in this video. Amazing, huh?

As compared to Jesse J who was just 27.

That’s a 48 year gap. Further proof that music transcends all barriers. Evidence that talent does not discriminate. And she’s a heck of a singer. If you’re not familiar with her work, go on and search for her songs. You won’t regret it.

She takes the second verse, showing of her incredible range without losing control or going overboard as most other diva style singers do.

“Both have brilliant voices. Jesse J is very underrated as a singer.”

Yes, she is.

It’s not easy to complement Tom’s powerful style. Jesse J has the power but she shows great respect for Tom by not taking over the performance. She plays along with Tom’s resonating pipes, using her own voice to blend in with him.

All eyes on them now with all the lights focused on the pair who have the audience enthralled by the mesmerizing rendition. The camera even captures some of them singing along and bopping their heads to the awesome number.

“You’ve lost that lovin’ feelin’
Now it’s gone, gone, gone, oh, oh, oh”

Now go ahead and compare all the other versions of this song to this one. Where would you rate Tom and Jesse? Pretty high, right?

Jesse’s slick black hair and Tom’s silver grey locks seem to capture the song’s timelessness. A song that speaks of a lover noticing his significant other getting colder. And of how he would beg her to stay.

This song had a resurgence in the 80’s thanks to a movie called Top Gun. Tom Cruise plays the main character and he sings this to a girl he has his eye on. The bar scene with his friend, if you’re familiar.

Now these two are just showing off and having fun. You can see them taking the duet parts with ease and just smiling at each other all the way. It is so pleasurable to the ears you’d play it over and over again. Takes guts to sing with a legend but Jesse J made Tom smile!
