If you think toddlers are complex, you’re absolutely right. They’re complex in such a way that there’s really no telling what they’ll do next. With such a big world waiting to be explored, toddlers just can’t wait to try anything and everything all at once. Their innate curiosity triggers them to pursue both the expected and the unconventional. For instance, some take a liking to drawing and experimenting with arts and crafts while some very eagerly want to work in the kitchen like their folks.
And then there are the musically inclined ones, like Shia Wilson.
At 21 months old, she can play the drums to her favorite beat – a song called “Pretty World” by her aunt Sheléa Frazier.
Pretty cool family, huh? An aunt who has collaborated with Stevie Wonder, folks who let kids explore music by letting them try their hand at playing instruments…
It’s no wonder Shia can play the drums so well, and with such confidence!
The video starts with her dad asking what song she wants to play along to. Immediately, Shia excitedly answers, “Pretty World!” The song starts playing and the adorable toddler begins drumming along. And when we say drumming along, we don’t mean loud, discordant banging.
Shia impressively keeps in time with the beat of her aunt’s song.
Not only that, she sings along and bops her head to the music, too.
Looking adorable in a striped tee with her hair up, the little musician happily drums along, wearing large, black headphones and a grin on her face.
Perfectly at ease in the music room, you can tell Shia spent a lot of time learning how to play her favorite song.
She even silently counts down to a certain part of the song as she plays, and occasionally shoots a smile at the camera without missing a beat on the drums.
It’s rare to see an almost two-year-old working the drums the way Shia does.
While we know how amazing kids can be and how much potential they hold, Shia’s drum playing skills show more than just her raw talent.
It’s also quite telling of the love and support she gets from her family.
Clearly, she was never discouraged from going into the music room and toying with the instruments.
Her curiosity, coupled with her family’s encouragement, resulted in the discovery of just how great she can be.
The calm and relaxed way Shia plays also reflects the absence of pressure. While it’s unwise to make assumptions on a person’s nature and upbringing based on a short video clip, one can’t help but notice her charming and engaging disposition as she plays the drums.
Shia’s impressive drum playing skills highlights the importance of letting children learn and explore by creating a healthy and loving environment where they can thrive.
This 21-month old prodigy will undoubtedly make an impact on the music scene.
With massive talent and a disarming demeanor, Shia Wilson is definitely a name to watch out for.
