For people who love old music, the song, “New York, New York” ranks high on the list of favorites. Officially called “Theme from New York, New York,” Frank Sinatra first performed it at the Radio City Music Hall in 1978. Composed by Fred Ebb and Jon Kander, Liza Minnelli also put her spin on this song.

What makes this particular piece so cool is its emphasis on the importance of working hard to make it big. Simply put, the line, “It’s up to you, New York, New York” stresses that no one gets something for free. But if people work hard, they can achieve their dream. So, it’s more of a grown-up song.

But tiny dancers showed it’s a great song for the younger generation too

In a 2016 performance at the OCPAA competition in where else, New York, dancers put on an incredible show. It’s so good that once the video was uploaded online, it quickly garnered more than 1.4 million views. These mini dancers showcased their fantastic jazz skills.

True New York style

The video starts with nine little darlings all decked out costumes that include a big white bow on their bums. At first, they face away from the crowd while standing in front of black boxes illuminated by bright lights. As soon as the music starts, they lift their hands and give their hips a quick twist that shows off the bows.

Look at her spin

One of the little girls runs from the one side of the stage to the other. Now in front of the other dancers, she does a standing split and then begins to spin. She might be small but she’s really good. It’s at that point when you can hear shouts and whistles coming from the audience.

They even include gymnastics moves in their routine

Next, another girl does several tumbles across the stage and she nailed it. But then all of a sudden, the tempo of the music changes. It goes from the fluidity of the song “New York, New York” into more of a hip-hop beat. That’s when the girls position themselves closer to the floor, shaking their booties.

They’ve got perfect moves

Some of the things these girls do in their routine are what you’d expect to see from older and more experienced dancers. Even when they flip their legs in the air, it’s perfectly synchronized. You can tell the choreographer, Amy Gold, from the Orange County Performing Arts Academy, put in a lot of time and effort in teaching these young dancers.

With sass and style, they steal the show

Every move these dancers do has a little bit of sass. They’re confident and serious but at the same time, having a blast performing on stage. Throughout the entire two-minute routine, they don’t disappoint. These girls took an old-time song to create a modern-day performance that everyone loved.
