The Voice has been a platform for the discovery of new promising talents for the past years. Season by season, things get extra interesting.
In one particular season, one contestant from Queensland stole the hearts of many. He also happened to claim that he might just be the grandson of the one and only King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley.
Dakota Striplin, a contestant in the 8th series of The Voice Australia in 2019, impressed the judges with his jaw-dropping rendition of the legend’s Love Me Tender.
“My dad doesn’t like me talking about this too much because it’s kind of hard for him,” he vulnerable shared. “My grandma, she worked for Elvis at a lot of his events and stuff in Hawaii when she lived there. She used to take my dad on trips to Hawaii by himself without the other kids.”
The 24-year-old recalled that her grandma absolutely “lost it” when Elvis Presley passed away in the year 1977.
He added, “She was drinking for weeks, wouldn’t leave her room and it was kind of a big reaction to hearing about a celebrity dying.”
Moreover, the aspiring singer shared that his father took a DNA test a few years back and it turned out that the grandfather he knew wasn’t his dad’s biological father.
“The theory is that Elvis is my granddad,” he admitted. “That would be pretty cool.”
If this is true, no wonder he’s got the knack of making women (and men!) swoon over his lovely voice.
In the show, Rowland almost immediately hit her buzzer as Dakota started singing. Not long after, Goodrem did the same and said, “I need to see this. What’s going on here?”
While the other two judges didn’t turn, they almost cried in regret when they found out that the talented contestant was actually the one playing his guitar.
Boy George got a bit curious as to why the singer chose ‘Love Me Tender.’
He answered, “I’ve always loved Elvis so much. He’s been a big idol for me since I was little, but recently my dad actually found out that his father wasn’t his biological father and there’s a lot of history with my grandma.”
“So you could be related to Elvis. I love that,” Boy George commented in shock.
“That’s the theory. That’s the running theory is he could be my grandfather,” Dakota replied.
Rowland continued to say that she definitely sees the resemblance. The judge also won Dakota as he chose her as his coach for the show.
“He certainly has Elvis Presley’s look and sense of humor. Elvis would have been proud of him because he doesn’t try to copy him. He sings that song in his own unique style,” Seminararbeit schreiben lassen one commenter posted.

While viewers had mixed reactions, one thing’s for sure: whether Dakota truly is the grandson of the late legend Elvis Presley or not, no one could ever deny the talent this young man has. And no one can take that away from him.
