“The Prayer” is not an easy song to sing.

One of the things that make this song stand out is because of its complexity.

The lyrics are pure and heartfelt, but the execution is definitely a challenge.

Pentatonix started its career in 2011 and the group won NBC’s The Sing-Off Season 3.

The group began with Kirstin Maldonado, Mitch Grassi, and Scott Hoying who grew up together and were schoolmates at Martin High School in Arlington, Texas.

Their careers started in their high school days when the three of them performed in their school and submitted their a cappella song covers to various recording studios and shows.

Although they were not initially recognized through their submitted performances, they started to gain recognition when their songs went viral on YouTube and their school asked them to perform a cappella numbers.

Kirstin attended the University of Oklahoma where she pursued a degree in musical theatre while Scott attended the University of Southern California to pursue his degree in popular music performance.

In college, the trio found out about The Sing-Off and met the other two members of their group.

Scott got acquainted with Avi Kaplan, a highly recognized vocal bass in the a cappella community, and Kevin Olusola who was known for “celloboxing”.

The five of them joined the competition and won the title in the program’s third season.

Since 2011, the trio has made various covers of well-known songs especially their Christmas songs which they sang in beautiful a cappella renditions.

The group eventually decided to take on the legendary “The Prayer”, and as usual, they did not disappoint.
