As we go through life, there’s nobody who we spend more time with or get closer to than our siblings.
Although there’s still plenty of sibling rivalry and not all brothers and sisters are equally close, it’s pretty much a scientific fact that our siblings end up spending the most actual time with us, on average. As a result of that, our lives often become entwined and we may even pursue the same careers or hobbies. For the artistically inclined, that may even mean starting a band together.
And as this clip from The Voice shows perfectly, sometimes all that time spent with your siblings can pay off.
For anyone unfamiliar with The Voice, it’s a little bit unusual among reality television competition shows.
Unlike shows like American Idol which are more or less a raw competition between contestants, The Voice’s competition comes in multiple tiers. On the one hand, the contestants all compete with each other but on the other, the judges also compete with one another to have the best contestants.
Part of this competition is that everyone goes through a “blind audition,” where the judges have their backs turned and must push a button to spin around and consider adding the performers to their team.
With that in mind, let’s consider the audition that sibling band The Bundys had on the show recently.
As the clip begins, all the judges are turned around and The Bundys have just taken the stage.
After a few notes on guitar, it’s clear that this one will be a country song. As a matter of fact, the song they’re covering is “Closer to Fine” by the Indigo Girls, a folk rock duo. As it begins, a woman’s voice rings out and it’s so full of soul. Both Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton are clearly feeling this performance but it’s Shelton who hits his buzzer first!
After Shelton hits it, Clarkson hits hers as well because she doesn’t want to miss out!
As the singing continues, the group starts to harmonize beautifully.
It’s not long after that that John Legend wants in on the action as well. “How many?” Legend asks one of the producers. Even Adam Levine seems curious about the trio as well. As the song continues, it only gets more soulful and passionate. Before long, Legend is dancing along with the performers but nobody else has turned around.
As it ends, Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson give them both a standing ovation!
Though their performance was incredible, it’s also worth noting that it’s the first time a trio has ever performed on The Voice!
As everything starts off, Adam Levine says that he’s a little bit disappointed that he didn’t turn around. After that, John Legend says that he was confused by the fact that there were three voices. Finally, it’s up to Shelton and Clarkson to fight over the talented trio.
As everyone argues, Shelton honestly says that he only wanted the first lead singer and was disappointed when he saw a trio. But after that, he says, his heart soared again when they were all amazing!
At the end, it’s time for the trio to make their decision of who they want to work with.
With everything said and done, The Bundys gather to discuss who they’ll work with.
After that, the trio makes their choice: they’re going with Clarkson! Regardless of the actual outcome of the performance or of the show, one thing is for certain—we’re reconsidering how much we hang out with our siblings after hearing these three! Although we can’t all sing equally well, maybe there’s some other creative project that could come out of us… who knows?
In any event, congratulations to The Bundys on an amazing performance! Check out the full video below:
