Let’s face it: nobody in life ever really wants to “audition.”
Whether we’re talking about something as menial as a job interview to something as intense and performative as an audition on a television show, auditioning is difficult for anyone who feels particularly self-conscious.
Though you definitely have to be talented and driven to exceed in any field in which you apply yourself, the audition phase can definitely throw off some performers for reasons other than their innate abilities.
And that’s definitely what happened for one act on the 2019 season of America’s Got Talent.
For the most part, we only get one small chance to wow people when it comes to auditioning.
Fortunately, on America’s Got Talent, that isn’t always the case. The show has a two-part audition where each contestant gives a first impression and then locks in their space with a second audition.
When it came to the Emerald Belles Dance Team from Texas, their first audition earned them three yeses—enough to continue, but not enough to truly blow everyone away. Still, they came back in their second audition ready to blow everyone away.
With that, they all stormed the stage and got into their positions.
After a brief recap of who they were and what they intended to do, they were ready to dance again.
After a moment, Britney Spears starts playing in the background and the dancers start hitting their marks.
Before long, everyone is dancing to rhythm and bouncing around the stage. As they get into the next phase of the performance, all the girls link arms with one another and start doing incredible synchronized high kicks!
At this, the whole audience gives them a big round of applause.
From there, the dance continues with more formations, more kicks and more floor moves as well.
Throughout the entire thing, they’re incredibly synchronized and in step with the music. While the whole thing is impressive, the very end is the most impressive thing of all: when they reach their last move, all of them jump in the air and do the splits, landing on the ground at the exact same time!
As the judges give their feedback, it’s clear that judge Simon Cowell is absolutely onboard with these dancers!
After that, judge Julianne Hough gives a little criticism… but also her support.
Once all that’s over, it’s time for the most crucial judge of all: Howie Mandel.
Just like last time… Mandel says that he isn’t quite sure that these dancers have what it takes to win the entire show. Regardless, Cowell says that the whole crowd should boo even louder for what Mandel has said!
Finally, guest judge Brad Paisley gives his full support… and when it’s all over, Cowell says that they continue on the show!
While it wasn’t the perfect audition once again, their second chance definitely helped them improve!
Without a doubt, differentiating yourself on a show as competitive as America’s Got Talent is no easy feat.
As hard as it was, the Emerald Belles came back out and gave their second audition their all… and it definitely helped their standing with the judges. Though it wasn’t the full sweep they were hoping for, their tenacity and determination proves that a little bit of criticism can sometimes be the spur you need to push you to even greater success!
