You may not recognize the band, but you’ll definitely recognize the song.
“Sh-Boom”, or “Life Could Be A Dream” has probably played on a radio or a TV near you multiple times.
The classic song by The Chords is their only hit.
One movie you may have heard it in is Disney’s Cars, where it plays when the neon lights turn on at Radiator Springs near the end of the film.
In fact, that may be the most popular usage of the song.
Now, how about watching a high school acapella group treat us to a cover of “Sh-Boom”? They even wore the suspenders and everything.
How much do you wanna bet that they also first heard the song from Cars?
They introduce themselves as the Chamboys.
With 9 members, the Chamboys have a lot of voices to work with.
And it’s a fair guess that they can harmonize all 9 pretty well.
No more than a few seconds in, and their harmonized voices have done the song justice.
Dare I say, it sounds just as good as the original recording too. These kids have talent.
Some of the more confident singers take turns singing lead, but that incredible backing harmony doesn’t stop while they do it.
That sound you’re hearing is the sound of months of hard, dedicated practice.
Choosing the path of music as a high school boy can be pretty daunting too.
However, let’s face it, girls love a guy who can sing.
And did you know that this song almost didn’t get published either?
The Chords performed a demo for record producer Bobby Robinson at first.
Robinson, who was sick at the time, turned down the song for not sounding marketable enough.
The song has been covered more than a few times, and yet The Chords never broke through from it. It remains their only hit song.
But having one hit song is better than none, right?
These boys have remarkable baritone voices, and their tones are clear as day.
Tenors and sopranos always get the most attention, but you’d definitely miss the baritone and bass ranges if they were gone.
The singer with the deepest voice handles the bass range.
He gets the crowd engaged by pointing at random members of the crowd to sing to, which I’m sure they appreciated.
Later, the bass singer does it one more time, realizing it was a hit with the crowd.
You can never have too much of a good thing, right?
But now we’re nearing the end of the song. They’ve got to end it on a high note – no pun intended.
It’s time for one last, perfectly-harmonized chorus.
And these lads can do that perfectly well.
Life could indeed be a dream, and they made it one – at least for this night.

I hope they never lost that love for singing as they got older.
