You know how people often gripe about the younger generation?

Open any newspaper, and you’ll find someone grumbling about how today’s youth are squandering their cash on avocado toast instead of putting in the elbow grease.

Well, guess what? Today’s teens are eager to prove that they’re not so different from the generations that came before them.

“Young folks have always splurged on things they desire but don’t necessarily need,” you might hear someone say.

And what’s one thing that’s been a universal connector for people of all ages? Dance, of course!

A group of teenagers at a prom decided to demonstrate this in a truly creative fashion.

Taking a cue from one of YouTube’s earliest viral sensations, “The Evolution of Dance,” these teens crafted their own dance medley that spans decades.

The video kicks off with the teens swaying to the classic “Stand By Me,” complete with dance moves straight out of the 1950s.

To add to the authenticity, they’re all decked out in suspenders, brown trousers, and white shirts.

The only anachronism? Their modern-day footwear.

Just when the audience is getting into the groove, the tune switches to Chubby Checker’s iconic “Twist” from 1960.

All four boys twist and shout in perfect sync, keeping the vibe of the era alive.

But wait, there’s more! James Brown’s “I Feel Good” bursts onto the scene, signaling that by 1964, both music and dance had evolved to be more expressive.

Fast-forward 13 years, and the Bee Gees’ “Night Fever” takes center stage.

The teens transition seamlessly from the swinging sixties to disco fever.

And then comes the campy classic “YMCA,” a song that’s had everyone from 1978 to the present day shaking their groove thing.

The musical journey doesn’t stop there.

It rewinds to “Kung Fu Fighting,” a tune that’s had nearly everyone busting a move at some point.

These teens, however, take it to the next level.

One of them even pulls off a jaw-dropping backflip off another’s back! “Source: TeenTitanCrew/YouTube,” the credits roll again.

Sticking to the 1970s, “Funkytown” is up next.

No backflips this time, but one teen manages an impressive handstand.

Then, the 1980s come roaring in with “(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life.”

The performance is electrifying, featuring a vaulted flip that would make even Dirty Dancing’s stars envious.

The dance medley continues to evolve, featuring hits from the ’90s like “Ice Ice Baby,” and even slowing down a bit with Run-DMC’s “It’s Like That.”

But then Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” revs things up again, complete with more acrobatic stunts.

And yes, they even dance to “Baby Got Back” by Sir Mix A Lot, a choice that makes it clear this isn’t your typical American high school dance.

Believe it or not, we’re only halfway through this epic performance.

The teens dance their way into the 2010s with “Call Me Maybe” and “Gangnam Style,” earning a thunderous applause from the audience.

The video has also gone viral, racking up over 4 million views and heaps of praise in the comments.

If this doesn’t make even the most cynical person optimistic about the potential of young people and their respect for the past, I don’t know what will.
