If you like reality singing and competition shows, which one is your favorite?
Though it goes without saying, there are plenty of these kinds of shows on television today and each one has its own unique approach to the genre. On American Idol, things are pretty straightforward: contestants all try out, they are gradually eliminated by first the judges and then the audience, and one person wins. On shows like The Voice, it’s similar except that the judges are also in competition and there are a few twists and turns along the way.
For something in between these extremes (and with some more variety), the Got Talent franchise is a good way to go.
For anyone who doesn’t know, the series began in 2006 and was started by Simon Cowell.
Though most of us are primarily familiar with America’s Got Talent, it is a global franchise with different versions of the show for countries all around the world.
The performance we’re talking about today came from Britain’s Got Talent, the first iteration of the now famous franchise. While there have been tons of incredible performances on the show throughout this years, this one was particularly great.
The person we’re talking about, of course, is Ryan O’Shaughnessy.
This performance goes all the way back to 2012.
On the show, O’Shaughnessy describes himself as a singer-songwriter who wants to make it the main focus of his life. After explaining a little bit about his inspiration and motivation, he walks out on stage to introduce himself to the judges.
Before long, he tells the judges that he’s 19 years old and that he’s going to sing an original song called “No One” that he’s written as a love letter for one of his friends.
Still, she doesn’t know that he has a crush on her or that he’ll be singing to her that day.
Although they press him as hard as they can, O’Shaughnessy won’t reveal the name of his crush!
When that’s all finally over, the judges clear the way for him to perform. He starts by picking and strumming on his acoustic guitar, all while singing in a gentle and soulful voice.
Although it’s not the flashiest performance anyone has ever seen, it’s clear that he’s a true romantic—and the whole audience is loving the song! Though the message of the song is powerful, there’s no denying that he has a beautiful voice as well.
When it’s all over, the audience is stunned for a moment—before they rise to their feet and give him a standing ovation!
Needless to say, the feedback he gets back from the judges and the audience is so positive!
When it’s time for Simon to comment, he asks if O’Shaugnessy has ever played the song for the girl he likes. He replies that he hasn’t… which the crowd thinks is even more romantic.
When it’s finally over, all three of the judges give him a big yes and he gets another huge round of applause! Though it’s not clear what exactly happened with his romance, the story behind the song was so powerful that it won everyone over.
