American Idol is back for its 21st season, and everyone is just excited to meet the newest musical stars that the show will discover.
For more than two decades, the program has been known for finding singers who are the next generation of stars.
Some of its famous alumni are Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry, Katherine McPhee, and a lot more.
Recently, the show started its intricate audition process and showcased the upcoming talents that people are going to want to watch out for in the next episodes.
One of these incredible artists is Iam Tongi from Kuhaku.
Iam is a high school student from Hawaii whose dream is to be a singer.
The 18-year-old joined the singing competition to showcase his talent for the world to see.
He entered the audition room wherein judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan are all waiting for him.
The young man’s outfit is quite simple, wearing only a plain black shirt, khaki shorts, and with nothing but slippers on his feet.
He was wearing his guitar on his body as he walked toward the middle of the floor.
Iam looked relaxed and happy to be there, but nobody knew that he was aching so much inside.
When the judges asked him about his family, Iam could not help but be emotional when he shared that his father passed away just a couple of months ago.
The aspiring singer’s voice broke and felt like crying when he started sharing about his dad.
He took some time to breathe, and the judges encouraged him to relax before his performance.
Iam told them that he would be singing the song “Monsters” by Jason Mraz.
When Iam started singing, everything else in that room did not matter anymore.
His voice was simple and beautiful, and the song lyrics that he sang soulfully told everyone about his story.
“Monsters” is a song about a father and a son saying goodbye to each other and it is the perfect piece that made Iam’s story even more relatable.
But, what also kept the judges speechless throughout his song was Iam’s incredible vocals.
He did not have to do so much to the song.
He just sang from his heart, and they all fell in love.
His story is so strong that it brings Lionel and Luke to tears.
Katy was also quite emotional as she listened to Iam’s heartfelt rendition.
At the song’s end, Iam’s voice broke because of sadness.
At the judges’ table, Luke could be seen wiping his tears, and Lionel kept doing the same.
Iam is undoubtedly a talented young man, and the judges were blown away.
It was not surprising that he got through to the next stage of the audition.
