Teen drummer stuns his class with perfect finale solo from ‘Whiplash’
The drum solos in the movie were mindblowing, but this teen's rendition was pretty impressive all on its own!

Drummers are the backbone of every musical band, and they deserve to be put into the spotlight too.

A high school teenager was able to rock a drum solo during their jazz rehearsal with the drum score inspired by a film about jazz.

The score was taken from the movie Whiplash.

One of the most important members of the jazz band is the drummer.

They provide the rhythm, the timing, and the completeness of a jazz musical piece. This was emphasized in Whiplash, a 2014 drama film with a jazz drummer as the protagonist.

Although it was mainly about the jazz drummer’s relationship with his dad, who was also the band’s instructor, the movie itself delves into the hardships of being on the drums.

All of their musical scenes were equally impressive, but what hit the most was the scene where the instructor Fletcher works the drummer Neiman to the point of abuse until he finds the perfect “tempo” he was looking for.

The high school drummer replicated that short scene impressively.

Ben, from Glendale High School in California, is part of the school’s musical band and was in charge of the drums.

During one of their rehearsals, their instructor decided to hit them with a drum score from the movie.

Their instructor made the countdown, and you could hear the drums and the trumpets blasting in the background.

However, the sound of the trumpets died down after a second, paving way for Ben to take the spotlight. Ben went for a slow start, picking up the beat little by little until it became a rapid drum roll.

The boy rapidly hit the drums with his sticks, not missing a single beat.

His focus was extraordinary, knowing where the drumsticks should hit next even despite the speedy tempo.

Ben vigorously hit the snares, timed it with the kicking of the bass drums, and coupled it up with the sharp sounds of the cymbals and the hi-hat. With them put together, it sounded just as impressive as the actual movie scene.

Even though it did not exactly match the impossible tempo of Neiman’s solo at the movie, Ben still nailed it.

You could see how much his bandmates looked at him with awe as he finished the piece. At the end of the video, Ben changed the atmosphere instantly by humorously playing a different groove, making everyone laugh.

The clip was uploaded on YouTube, earning over 3.4 million views.

The online folks were thoroughly impressed with how this young drummer banged his drumsticks with confidence.

Some left him encouraging messages on the comment section while some humorously inserted quotes from the movie, depicting the scene where Fletcher yells at Neiman.

With enough practice, he could be as good as Neiman!

Nothing is impossible if you work hard enough.

If Ben continues to practice the drums, he will undoubtedly improve and could actually match how Neiman played the drums in the movie. The other difference between him and Neiman was that Ben never had blood smeared on the drum set, and he did not have a horrible instructor like Fletcher throwing a chair over his head. With enough encouragement from the people around him, it will be less likely for him to get off the drum set. Hopefully, we could see this badass guy rocking his drums at a concert someday in the future.
