Legendary music artist, Elvis Presley, has been gone for more than four decades now – but he’ll always remain the King. People around the world are familiar with the distinctive voice of the late singer, and there’s no doubt, he’ll continue to gather fans for generations to come.
Of course, the only way we can listen to Elvis Presley is by playing his classic records. But the internet was left ‘all shook up’ when a teenager sang a rendition of “Blue Christmas” while visiting a radio station. That’s because he sounds eerily like the King himself…
David Thibault is a Canadian singer who developed a love for Elvis because of his grandpa. Although he was born nearly 20 years after the passing of the artist – some find the resemblance between the two uncanny.
Thibault, who speaks French, was just 16-years-old when he walked into CKOI-FM Radio in Montreal, Québec. He brought with him an acoustic guitar and had his dark hair slicked back.
After he was introduced by the show’s host, the light-eyed musician opened his mouth to sing a cover of one of the tunes Elvis popularized, “Blue Christmas.” Everyone was stunned by what they heard.
Thibault’s singing voice sounded very similar to Elvis’, which is very iconic and hard to compare to. However, the teen could duplicate the sound so well that he instantly covered everyone in chills.
Elvis recorded his soothing version of the song in 1957 – which appeared on his Christmas album that same year.
Not only did the radio show’s hosts go nuts over Thibault’s “Blue Chrismas” performance, but the rest of the world did too. It quickly spread like wildfire across the internet.
Within a week of the video being posted on the station’s YouTube channel, it was viewed nearly five million times. And in 2019, it’s exceeded an impressive 14 million views.
David Thibault began climbing a ladder to fame because of that radio show appearance.
Shortly after, he was invited onto The Ellen Show to sing a live performance of “Blue Christmas,” which too went viral. He also led a group in the singing of “Happy Birthday” to Elvis at Graceland.
Thibault once again had ears perking up when he auditioned for the French reality competition, The Voice: la plus belle voix. His cover of Elvis’ “Blue Suede Shoes” secured him a spot on the show. Although the teen didn’t take home first-prize that season, he did come in third and his name was catapulted even further.
In addition to Thibault’s voice being unmistakenly similar to Elvis’ – his appearance and style also add to the resemblance.
David Thibault’s had a successful music career since he was first introduced to the world at 16. His music is available on popular streaming services, he’s gone on musical tours, and more.
Yet, the internet will likely remember Thibault most for the first time he wowed us with his version of “Blue Christmas.” It’s one that’s so stunning it still covers listeners in goosebumps.
On the YouTube video, a man named Allan shared:
“My mom is 69 who seen Elvis in concert, I told her to close her eyes and listen to this 16 year old singing Elvis, she smiled and said Okay. I put this on and in a few seconds looked back, Her eyes were closed with tears coming down her face. Proves something to me, Elvis is back”
